Germs - to spread or not to spread

I'm germ phobic, so just curious to know what 'normal' people think in this situation to gauge whether I'm being unreasonable or not.

So. DD is 4 months old. I take her to a baby music class once a week. There are usually about 10-15 other babies up to the age of one who come along. During the class, the babies play with musical instruments, which are shared and passed around. Naturally, babies of this age shove everything into their mouths. This week the lady next to me's son was sick. At first I thought it was just normal baby spit up - lets face it, all babies are sick. But the baby kept being sick which ended in projectile vomit all over the floor. The mum was saying about how unusual it was for her DS and was clearly concerned (so clearly not a normal occurence for this baby). I then overheard her talking to another mum about whether maybe her DS had a tummy bug. All through this, her DS was chewing on the shared instruments which were being passed around.

Am I being unreasonable to think that if you suspect that your child has a tummy bug, you do NOT bring them to a shared session with a load of other small babies? Or if you suspect it half way through the class, you leave?

If she was surprised, I'm guessing it only started during the class. So unless the class leader provides you all with a crystal ball, its a bit harsh to judge her for the baby being sick whilst they were there. And maybe, just maybe she was a bit worried and preoccupied with her baby (and the judgeypants around her) to even register that the baby was chewing on the instruments.

Congratulations though on getting to 4 months without putting a foot wrong.

At our music class the instruments are Milton wiped at the end of the day. I discovered this when I handed back some soggy claves and asked if I should put them somewhere separate to the others.

Ask the teacher how often the toys and instruments are cleaned if it bothers you.

She may have just been unsure as to what it was, hence talking to another parent about the possibility. Babies are sick all the time so as a rule, it wouldn't be anything I'd run out of the door for at that young age.

In terms of general hygiene, yes if you know full well your child has a sickness bug, you'd keep them away. Doesn't sound like this was the case though.

I think once her dc had sucked all the instruments and projectile vomited the other babies will have already been exposed to tge germs.

If she suspected a tummy bug then she should have stayed at home but if the puking started at tge class ( which it sounds like it did) there wasn't much she could have done.

Do you breastfeed? If so you were probably also exposed to the germs so you will pass on antibodies.
