Diva Cup - I'm freaking out (sorry a bit graphic)

I live in the middle of nowhere, so nothing but, poo, loo paper and wee down the loo, sick of using tampons that always leaked etc plus the grim disposal factor. Bought one of these reusable cups and started using it Thurs night when I came on...thought brilliant on day 1 of my period. Now I am totally freaking out as I (no kidding) am filling it every 3 hours.

I have always had heavy periods, had to put towels down on the bed overnight when it's heavy as sometimes I can't make it to the loo fast enough in the night to change a super plus tampon, it pours out of me. This cup apparently holds the average menstrual cycle of 30ml, in the last two days alone I've lost 180ml, I know because i am keeping a log of it now!! I'm feeling a bit scared. Is this what has been going on but I haven't been so aware as I was using tampons. Has anyone else had any experience of this?

AIBU being a little bit scared :( sorry I posted here with a tenuous link to AIBU but I know more people stomp these threads.

I have read online that heavy periods like this are a condition, I'm going to speak to my GP when my period has ended, no point going tomorrow is it when still mid flow!

That's an awful lot of blood loss over two days. 80ml for the entire period is considered exceptionally heavy.

I would get to a GP asap because you'll start getting anaemic if you carry on at that rate.

Try not to be too scared - there's all sorts of things that can cause this, and most of them are sort-out-able.

How are you feeling in yourself?

fruitloop84 · 27/10/2013 07:10

Are you sure it holds 30 I have a.moon cup and just looked and that only holds 15. but I have to change mine pretty frequently too when.I have a heavy period. I wouldnt worry too much but your gp can prescribed something too make them lighter if need be.

Afrodizzywonders · 27/10/2013 07:12

Feeling a little bit weak to be honest. Not able to grip things in my hands properly.

Should I ring nhs direct? Sorry for such stupid questions, just not sure what to do.

Diva cup says 30 in its booklet and i checked online, it's the post birth one...so yes I'm pretty sure it's right. The amount of blood is making me feel sick every time I change it.

No reason to freak out but yes visit your gp. I thought i was just crap with dealing with periods until i got a mooncup and was able to measure just how much i was losing.

HettiePetal · 27/10/2013 07:18

Yes, if it's making you feel unwell then I would call NHS Direct (111).

If nothing else they can reassure you.

And these aren't stupid questions at all. I had a most peculiar period at the beginning of the year and called NHS direct, and a lovely nurse talked to me for ages.

Vajazzler · 27/10/2013 07:26

I had the same thing op. Huge blood loss with clots that filled my mooncup. Went to the gp who sent me for a scan. I had a cyst on my ovary which I had removed. The gp also referred me for an endometrial ablation. Has had a great difference to my life.

Afrodizzywonders · 27/10/2013 07:31

Just rang NHS Direct, waiting for them to call me back now. Thank you for all your posts x

I'd call too. nothing wrong with seeking some advice. They can give you something to slow the flow?

I see you said its a post birth one. Are you post birth? When DS was 4 months I had 2 periods within 18 days of each other like this - they then returned to 'normal' and was told probably hormones settling themselves again. (I'd just stopped BF)

Afrodizzywonders · 27/10/2013 07:41

I'm 10 months post birth, Periods returned after 2 months, soon after the lovely lochia! And I'm still bf...no respite!

This is why reusable cups are such a good idea - you get a much better sense of what your body is up to.

Hope you get it sorted OP.
