To not want to leave the kids with a sitter on halloween..

Arranged to meet friends on 31 oct, forgot it was halloween. Apart from the fact that the kids will be ott from trick or treating, i don't feel it's fair to leave the sitter in charge, trying to settle them and potentially dealing with late knockers or even idiots. Plus i am just a tiny bit nervous about sitters and halloween because of the film... I just feel i should stay home. Aibu?

It depends on who the babysitter is.

Could you ask them if they mind and let them decide?

DC are usually a bit hyper if they've got a babysitter anyway (aren't they?), maybe they'll enjoy doing all the halloweeny things with them?

Just don't book Jamie Lee Curtis as a babysitter!

Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream
Make him the cutest that I've ever seen
Give him two lips like roses and clover
Then tell him that his lonesome nights are over

Sorry, couldn't resist!

True... I am being overprotective of everyone here and a bit superstious...the sitter is too nice to say anything and my dc are always hard to settle let alone if doorbell wakes them up!

Sandman, I'm so alone
Don't have nobody to call my own
Please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream

This is what being unfair to your babysitter looks like

Boardingblues · 27/10/2013 01:30

Very cruel trick - warning!

Monty27 · 27/10/2013 01:50

I wouldn't, for none of the above reasons, just because spending hallow een with your dcs is fun.

I used to babysit on Halloween. The sitter will be fine, it really can be great fun if you leave them with a couple of games and a kid-appropriate mildly scary ish film.

I'd be a bit of a kill joy though and tell the sitter not to answer the door to trick or treaters once the film is on.

UABU, how could you forget that 31 October is Halloween?

Take the batteries out of the doorbell, 'tis a great halloween trick.

Deal with the always hard to settle issue though, it won't go away on its own.
