To feel a bit grrrrr

Just got back from a baby shower. I brought mtb a gumigem teething bangle. A couple of the other mums were looking at it and then auntie piped up and said "isn't that a bit dirty, wearing something and then giving it to your baby to teeth on". I just thought how rude to say that about someone else's gift. Wish I'd said that now in hindsight. I did say that I had one and my son at 2 has never had a tummy bug in his life and do you know what sometimes if I'm not quick enough he eats dirt.

I hate baby showers for this reason!

I gave my sister a huge bag of gifts, some were clothes a friend had passed on from her and baby and some were new.

I was judged by other guests, I was apparently showing off by bringing a big bag of gifts. Then I was judged for giving second hand clothes Hmm

They were very rude but try not to give them a second thought.

I have no idea what the teething thing is, but yes, that is rude. If someone has chosen a gift, onlookers should keep their thoughts to themselves.

I've never been to one before. Lots of presents given which I thought was the done thing when baby actually arrives.

Had a nice evening a a few glasses of wine but this made me leave on a sour note.

Yes it's very rude but people ARE rude.
Don't let it get to you. I bet the aunt ate a fair bit of dirt when she was teething too so ner!

You went to a Baby shower?
Great.
Was it on fifth Avenue ?
Or Wisteria lane?

ClaireandGeorge · 27/10/2013 07:53

Yes I went, they are a bit daft though. Never had one myself but this was a young girl from work and she's had a bit of a tough time so thought I'd go along.

Those teething bangles are lovely and a great idea for a present. I would have been happy to receive one. The 'it's not hygienic' argument is a load of bull. Don't give those women a second thought!

I'm not massively keen on baby showers either.

ToriaPumpkin · 27/10/2013 08:25

Until I got a gumigem DS used to chew on my fingers and clothes. Should I have been sterilizing myself?

Yes they were rude, but try not to let them bother you. (easier said than done, I know!) some people just have to have something to say!

my friends organised me a baby shower Hmm

I ended up with crappy nappies, cheap dummies, 7 teddys and numerous photo albums. the only useful thing was from my MIL who bought me a vase as she doesn't believe in buying things for a baby before it is born Blush
