isn't a cue for the checkout lady to start whipping it all through at 40 miles an hour. I have packing down to a fine art now it's all bring your own bags but I'm not in possession of Superman's superspeed and can't pack when the stuff is basically being thrown at me.

She was very nice otherwise and we exchanged cheery words. While she pelted bottles of high juice and farfalle at me...

I had this in cunting Sainsbury's last week.

As the checkout nob hurled my shopping through the boop at breakneck speed, I said to her, 'Could you slow down a bit, please?'

'Sure!' she beamed at me, and sped the fuck up.

I am a packing ninja. I have a system of loading on to the conveyor belt and can end a massive shop with only a few items waiting to be bagged as the final bag of crisps lettuce goes through. I have bags ready and everything. It's my only talent in life. But this twunt was my nemesis.

I stopped packing altogether and stared at her as she flung through the last few things like she was the cocking Flash. When she was done, I started packing. Slowly.

I think they've been told by management to shove everything through at a billion miles an hour. Maybe it makes customers pack quicker. It's fucking annoying though.

Well kill. You get a scanner gun thingy and scan your stuff as you go round-and pack it as you go round too. The gun tots up what you have spent.
Then you go to the scan and shop till and pay for it. Stuff goes into the bag once, and doesn't go anywhere near a conveyor.

CrohnicallyTired · 26/10/2013 18:12

I can keep up in Lidl, you just have to be organised as you put stuff on the conveyor, and have your bags open in the trolley waiting.

What annoys me is when I go to a normal supermarket, and they scan so slowly I'm standing there waiting for another item to be scanned! At least if they are going too quickly you have the option of letting things pile up a bit.

sapfu · 26/10/2013 18:57

Go to cunting sainsbury's CT, you'll be lucky if you have time to blink before it's all gone through.

KayHarker · 26/10/2013 19:03

sparklingbrook verily I have never heard of such a thing. Sounds wondrous!

I normally get my shopping delivered so it's not normally a problem.

Question about Aldi/Lidl that might be a bit leftfield:

I have dexterity issues - do Aldi/Lidl have pull ring lids to their tinned tomatoes?

I go my usual speed, when I have the 'pleasure' of visiting a supermarket which isn't often and then they sit there waiting until I have packed it all. Silly arses.

SHRIIIEEEKFuckingBearBlood · 26/10/2013 19:07

I think lidl does. Their sweetcorn def does

fossil971 · 26/10/2013 19:13

I think if people can't demean themselves to politely ask the checkout op to please slow down a bit, they can't really complain. If you did ask them to slow down and they didn't you would have a point. Also if you don't take your own bags you can hardly take the moral high ground. OP are you sure you weren't just having a bad day?

fossil971 · 26/10/2013 19:16

oops posted a bit soon. OP I just checked in the larder, Aldi "Corale" baked beans have ringpull lids, I'm 99% sure the tomatoes do but I open all tins with a tin opener regardless. Do you need them or need to avoid them?

KayHarker · 26/10/2013 19:17

Thankfully I didn't have a lot so it wasn't that much of a problem. A minor irritation, if you will. I did have my own bags, so the moral high ground is mine.

OP posts:
KayHarker · 26/10/2013 19:18

Thank you for the tin info. I need the ringpulls as I can't use can openers.

I hate shopping with my mum, she just chuck anything into any old bag. Mix bags of fruit with tins.

I have a system and nobody is putting me off, even DH is not allowed to touch the groceries.

gingerbreadshoes · 26/10/2013 19:32

You do realise that the cashiers are set targets based on how many items they must scan through in a set amount of time don't you? I highly doubt that they do it to you on purpose.

I believe Aldi's target is 700 items per hour Shock

BackforGood · 26/10/2013 21:26

Kay - You need one of these
One of the BEST things in my kitchen.

manticlimactic · 26/10/2013 22:35

22 items a minute at our place. Scores on the board upstairs. Seems to be only the reliefs from other departments hit or get above the target. The regular operators go the speed for the customer.
