I am currently an ASDA size 20. :(

I did it 2 years ago! 3 stone in 3 months. (put it back on again, mind Sad) Will power is needed, which I am sadly lacking right now; but it is doable. Any particular reason?
As a health issue, I'm sure you know that it better to lose weight slowly and keep it off.

Mollydoggerson · 23/10/2013 21:38

No bother at all. I just watched 'Fat, sick and nearly dead', a documentary about 2 guys that went on 60 day green juice diets, they each lost something like 80 lbs. It was pretty inspiring. Not saying you need to do that but anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

mameulah · 23/10/2013 21:39

Justfor...would you be interested in doing it together. A few pm of support over the next few weeks? You know the sort '...just think, you won't have to wear leggings and an ASDA LARGE BAGGY jumper for Christmas dinner...'

Ah-ha - TiP is here first.

Come and 5:2 OP, 'tis fabulous and you can still have all the things you love.

mameulah · 23/10/2013 22:06

Thanks heaps. My big dilemma is that we are also ttc so I don't want my body to go into starvation mode. I was more hoping to eat healthy and bust my ass with exercise. Unless anyone can give me any other good ideas?

Diets don't work.

Its a fact.

Literally 99% put it all back on within 5 years.

Can I totally and completely recommend an absolutely brilliant book called "Fat Chance". It explains clearly why, and what the solution is.

Having read it, I can honestly say I will never diet again.

(And I've done them all).

Good luck.

GreenVelvet · 23/10/2013 22:13

p.s. The author is Dr Robert Lustig.

Sirzy · 23/10/2013 22:17

I have dropped from a size 20 to a size 14 since may but it has taken a big lifestyle change and being accepting that it will be slow and steady rather than the weight just falling off - I won't put the weight back on and I know that if I crash diet that is what will happen.

I think if you want it to be something sustainable you would struggle to lose that much so quickly tbh. I think you need to give yourself a more realistic target.

itwasarubythatshewore · 23/10/2013 22:21

Starvation mode is a complete myth: fattyfightsback.blogspot.co.uk/2009/03/mtyhbusters-starvation-mode.html Ditto 'slow metabolism' or 'metabolism has got messed up from dieting' etc etc (unless you have a thyroid disorder)

Diets do work, in that you will lose weight (that's just simple science), however there is a lot more to losing weight and keeping it off than following a diet. I lost a significant amount of weight years ago and I think anyone trying to lose a lot of weight without addressing their psychology is wasting their time.

So yes, it might be possible, but are you genuinely ready to do it this time for the last time?

itwasarubythatshewore · 23/10/2013 22:22

Uh, clicky link: fattyfightsback.blogspot.co.uk/2009/03/mtyhbusters-starvation-mode.html

dexter73 · 23/10/2013 22:25

Watch your portion size. A 'normal' portion of something is depressingly small!

Talkinpeace · 23/10/2013 22:45

mameluah
the jury is out on TTC and any form of intermittent fasting
BUT
starvation mode is most certainly a myth
AND
If you come and join the tidal wave of support and positive vibes that is the 5:2 threads, you'll be able to get your size to where you want it
even if you never do a 'proper' fast.

PS
Diet just means "what you eat"
so you need to make "what you eat" be the right amount to keep you at a happy healthy size.

mameulah · 23/10/2013 23:15

This is great. Thanks. What is a realistic target?

Am off to look up Fat Chance!

Lj8893 · 23/10/2013 23:59

With willpower its certainly possible.

As for a realistic target, 2lbs a week i think is realistic. Of course some weeks you may lose more (especially your first couple of weeks) and then other weeks you may plateau and not lose any but realistically it can average out to 2lbs a week.

Talkinpeace · 24/10/2013 10:21

mameulah
in 5:2 land we tend to aim for between 1 and 2 lb a week - and its for ever
combined with the shred or c25k you'll look amazing

EldritchCleavage · 24/10/2013 10:46

It may be helpful to think about 'change', rather than 'diet'. To lose weight and keep it off it is not enough to diet, you need to change your pattern of eating. Which is not a bad thing. Done properly, you can get to a place where food is a positive enjoyable thing that doesn't take up a lot of space in your head, rather than an endless source of anxiety and guilt.

jellyboatsandpirates · 24/10/2013 10:54

Healthy eating and willpower and you can easily do it.
says me who needs to find a healthy dose of willpower myself

littlewhitebag · 24/10/2013 11:00

I think i need to join you after a depressing weight check this morning. I have climbed over 12st AGAIN.

It is doable, it is just so hard and the weight goes back on so very easily. I lost 2st last year on weight watchers. But 12 lb has crept back on and none of my clothes fit.

We can DO this together!!

thestauntonlick · 24/10/2013 11:02

You could try low carbing. There are lots of threads on here.

MarysDressSways · 24/10/2013 11:06

I've lost 2 stone in the last 7 weeks, I don't pretend to think it will keep coming off that fast, but it's a good start.

I'm not starving myself either, I've just cut out bread/pasta/rice/cheese and "naughty" things like puddings, chocolate, crisps etc (common sense really). I'm just eating more veg than before, and I'm having smaller portions and a much smaller lunch. I haven't found it THAT difficult, after years of over-eating.

Good luck!

NotYoMomma · 24/10/2013 11:07

I did 5'2 while ttc and lost a stone and am now due any day Grin

I even kept up the weightloss whike pregnant just using support and healthy eating and got my bmi below 35 and reclassified to low risk

Grin

dooooo ittttt

HelgatheHairy · 24/10/2013 13:06

Same as notyomomma had been TTC for a year, started doing 5:2. Lost a stone in about 3 months and only stopped because I discovered I was pregnant!

DD is now 10 weeks old.

Talkinpeace · 24/10/2013 13:18

Helga and Notyo
Congratulations to you both,
pop over to the 5:2 threads and you will be showered with Thanks as it has been one of our worries that it might not work for younger people TTC
