DS is 4.8 and in P1. He came straight out of school today and said he didnt get any dinner only a piece of shortbread. From what I can gather he went to the toilet before dinner. He said it took him along time because he was afraid of the hand dryer (he has been since he was a baby) but he wanted to use it because there was no towel. he couldn't get it turned on so he waited and waited and then another boy came along and turned it on. By the time he got back to class everyone had gone but a girl took him to the dinner hall. When he got there they just gave him some shortbread.

So now im annoyed that they left him in the class and no one picked up that he had ni dinner. WWYD about this?

I don't think it's a case of not expecting the school to realise he was late for lunch.
Even if he WAS absolute ages in the toilets, how come nobody missed him?! Confused
That alone would have me concerned, as he could have locked himself in or anything.

Your poor ds. Sad
This is one of the reasons why I don't think children should start "big" school at 4. Because they still need someone to look out for them and they just don't get that at school. To be honest I think huge numbers of children get through reception eating very little and avoiding the toilets. That's my experience anyway. Not a great situation.

Ah Hun. My wee one just started p1 so know how you feel. I would just ask to have a quiet word with his teacher and tell her what your ds told you. Does she know he is scared of hand driers? Perhaps she could inniciate a buddy system for him to go to the toilet?

Something similar happened to my ds in his daycare last year. The nursery forgot to give him lunch when they picked him up from nursery (he ate in different room to his care room). When his key worker realised at 2.30pm she rushed down and gave him a snack.
