To let my DD wear thigh high leather boots?!

I have been having a conversation with my DDs about Christmas and what they might want. DD2 who is 15 desperately wants a pair of leather thigh high/over the knee boots. I'm torn.

She wants ones like these - obviously not Chloe ones at £800 but along these lines!

Part of me thinks fine, they're practical, they're flat, they will be warm and waterproof. The other part of me can't quite get the 'Pretty Woman' connotation out of my head. I can only imagine what DH will say when I suggest them!

I asked her what she'd put them with, and she said skinny jeans, skater skirts and tights, dresses etc, so normal teenage stuff, not latex mini dresses or hot pants.

I just can't help thinking that whilst they're very fashionable at the moment, they're not really appropriate for a teenage girl. But then I can't really justify why not!

Would you let your 15 year old have them?!

When I read your OP - I thought 'you have to be fucking joking surely' Hmm but then I clicked on the link... they're a lot less 'street corner' and a LOT more fly-fishing Grin

I'd let her have them if I thought she would only wear them with jeans, I wouldn't be keen on her wearing them with short skirts (mind you, skater skirts are SO unflattering that I can't see anyone eyeing up a girl in one - irrespective of her boots!!!) and once they have them, you can't control what they wear them with... so - I'm on the fence!!

Oh gosh I had some of those at 15, I used to frequent the local rock clubs (wild child Blush). Every time I'd come downstairs to go out my Dad would slap his thigh and do various Pantomime skits in his attempts to be funny. "He's behind you" and "how far to London Ms Whittington" were amongst his favourites. To be fair though I mostly wore mine with denim shorts and hot pink fishnets and an assortment of glam rock T Shirts so I did look a bit pantomimey....

I've still got a couple of pairs now Wink let her have them.

They look like they're just over the knee rather than mid-thigh length, if so, not my cup of tea, but personal taste aside, I think they'd be fine.

7 inch heel, platform, mid-thigh high boots would be a no, but flat, black, over the knee boots I'd be fine with.

I would, they are flat boots? While it was loading I had a high platformed shiny red thigh boot in my head!

My sister had suede ones when we were teens. She looked fab in them. I was really jealous because I am too short and my legs are too skinny for them.

I'd let her have them, she could ask for a lot worse.

I had a tan pair and never wore them out as I have skinny legs and looked like Robin Hood! Hmm

They cost £200 and I HAD to have them so I wouldn't get a mega expensive pair Smile

I love them....I had some just like that in the black n white days( 80s). They are flat for goodness sake. They remind me of the New Romantics.

Hmm mixed views! Love the fly fishing and pantomime suggestions though, maybe that will put her off!

She's not at all tall (5ft and 6 stone soaking wet with twiget legs) so they might look a bit silly (and be waist high rather than over the knee). Perhaps I will suggest trying them on in the hopes they look ridiculous.

I think she probably would mostly put them with jeans and jumpers which would be ok, her skater skirts are short but quite child like as opposed to hooker like! Chipping, she comes as close to pulling them off as anyone, and I much prefer them to the body con lycra jobs!

They are conservative compared to what the 15 yr olds round here wear to go out in. Your DD will look fine in them Smile

GGI - I was just laughing at that 'they're not thigh high, they're just over the knee' - because on me (brely 5ft), that's the same thing Grin It will be for your DD too. Though, I cannot say the same about twiglet legs - unfortunately!!

I was just going to say 'Has she actually tried any on?? but it would seem not Grin. I'd take her to try some - see what you both think on the understanding it's not a 'yes' - just a 'maybe - let's go for a look'.

OH yep - if I had a teen DD I'd be all for skater skirts - bloody ugly things!! Grin Not like the micro minis I wore in my teens, they were made out of very very tight lycra... basically, looking back, it was like going out naked!! LOL

There's a big difference between what you've posted and thigh-high. I think they're fine.

It doesn't matter what she would look like in them, fashion disasters are half the fun of growing up!

It's the sexualisation you need to think about - I think they're perfectly fine because they're flat but only with leggings or
Skinny jeans not skirts! If they were heeled I'd say a big no!!

When you said thigh high I had visions of those really high stripper type boots

But yes, at 5 foot, even OTK boots are going to be really long on her and look silly
