So my p said that I had to get the flu jab!
as it would make me a bad mother. I would get him sick, and it would be my fault.

So is he being unreasonable?????

Is your partner getting the flu jab?

I know a few people who have chosen to pay for the flu jab in order to try to reduce the chances of children/loved ones getting ill but realistically you can stop someone else catching a bug.

If you want to get it get it, but don't feel guilted into it.

OddBoots · 22/10/2013 20:30

No one can tell you that you have to have it, DP or not. I have had it by choice but it is each person's own choice, no-one else's.

Evilwater · 22/10/2013 20:34

Yes he did have it. And he practically marched me up to the pharmacist and paid for both of us to have it.

Did you have it? He can't force you to op!

Evilwater · 22/10/2013 20:51

Yes. He stood at the door saying I was more stubborn than an donkey, that I was being a silly child, and I should think of my PFB.

But was I BU???

That's shocking. YANBU. He is being a complete arse.

Sirzy · 22/10/2013 20:56

Surely forcing an adult to have a medical procedure against their will is abuse?

And why on earth did the pharmacist agree to do it knowing you didn't consent?

Evilwater · 22/10/2013 20:57

Really?! he can be a twit and a dickhead Grin

The repetition of Evil on here is freaking me out.

HIDES THREAD.

I've only had flu once, and I always get colds. I'm a healthy 30 year old with no medical problems. I see why I need it.

It should read,
I don't see why I should have it.

Three healthy adults in this house. We all have it - we all freelance and if we don't work we don't get paid. No it won't prevent the myriad of other bugs that are around, but flu is very nasty indeed. I've had it three times in my life (I'm 50) and I'm not risking having it again.

Famzilla · 22/10/2013 21:19

Why do you keep saying evil? It's starting to creep me out.

Otherwise, if you didn't want it then you should have said so.

The idea of vaccinations is herd immunity but it doesn't stop you getting flu it just helps you build up an immunity- you may not catch, you may throw off as a cold or have mild flu instead of getting it flu on if you catch. If you have the jab and catch flu, it won't neccessarily stop you passing it to him-he just should just be more protected. The vaccination does protects other people to by giving you immuntiy but there's no 100% immunity from it.

He WNBU to talk to you about it or give you his opinion but he is VVU
for marching you to get a flu jab and trying to guilt you into getting it-that just makes him an arse.

Read up on the vaccine OP (NHS website, then the power of google) and decide for yourself. Read on herd immunity and the pros and cons and make your own decision.

Whether you decide for it or not isn't for him to dictate and if he's happy marching you and guilting you and pressurising you then getting the ja isn't your main worry.

I had it last year- swine flu- it gave me an achy arm for a day but i was fine. One year (when i was very young) I made the mistake of getting it while ill and was very ill so if you do decide to get it make sure you aren't coming down with anything- your immune system won't need to be working on two things at once.

Mim78 · 22/10/2013 21:58

It's a good idea to have the flu jab IMO but he can't/shouldn't make you. Also why we're you paying for it - if you are preggers it is free!

I hope he is as evangelical about making sure you don't ever have to stand up on a train and that you don't over do it with housework etc!
