To be worried about Australia's climate in the future?

Dh and I have long considered moving back "home" to Oz but lately I've been feeling more and more positive about the move and have been considering it for when DD1 leaves primary...it would be a good time to shift as there would be change anyway at this point. Plus DD2 would be leaving infants at this point and that's another natural break in ducation.

However...Sydney's current bushfires have been worrying...it's very early in the Australian summer for these temps...it's still actually Spring there.

I googled a bit and got this article in the Sydney Morning Herald which if you don't want to read it, says that in around 25-35 years, the lowest temperatures there will be higher than the current highest ones.

Shock

Since the highest temps in Oz at the moment are shockingly in the 40s...can you imagine living in a place where the lowest at that!?

I am seriously unsure now...the reasearch is sound...I have to think about my kids...and about how my retirement would be in that sort of climate.

I struggle when the temp hits 38....wwyd?

wwyd? Not listen to the scare stories. 15 years ago "they" were saying British climate would be Mediterranean by now with scorching summers and we should all rip up our lawns and replace with cacti.
Australia's having a hot Spring, that's it really.

Moog thanks...I do think though that it's not just scare stories...it's very hot there now...and we'd be living in Adelaide which is even hotter...if people always dismiss this kind of research as "scare stories" then what's going to happen to the world?

It's graphs like this which scare me mostly. What I'm asking is AIBU to consider this trend as a reason NOT to move over there? How hot can a country get before it's really not fun to live in anymore?

Of course I COULD just be scared in general and latching on....but what do you think? In my shoes?

to make an informed decision read, When the rivers run dry

Many of Australia's rivers are in serious trouble, already party due to people reluctance to give up their extraction rights.

No they weren't moogy. Long term climate change predictions for UK are mildly warmer and wetter.

Which seems true so far.

I can't really help you about Australia, but if lots of reputable sources are broadly saying that it will become considerably hotter than I would absolutely listen to that. What about considering cooler parts of the country?

ICameOnTheJitney · 20/10/2013 16:50

It wouldn;t be feasible to live in a cooler area TeWi as all our family and friends are in Adelaide and the work which DH could get is based there too.

I'd hate to move over there with no support network...it's such a big country it could go months before we saw friends if we lived in another area.
