It seems that in a year both of my children have gone from having perfect vision to needing reading glasses. Don't get me wrong, I know there is nothing wrong with wearing specs and both actually seem pleased to have been able to pick a pair out for themselves.. they are absolutely fine about it.

If it was 1 of them I would feel ok about, just one of those things. But BOTH?! I feel guilty, I keep wondering whether it was anything I could have changed.. tv watching perhaps!? would a couple of hours in the evening do damage?! Neither one really uses a computer at home aside from to do homework. 12yr old DS does have a 7" mp4 player he likes to watch tv on in his room, maybe that was it :s

The optician was really nice about it. She mentioned something about his eyeball not being entirely round, DD is slightly long sighted (+0.25?) I don't really understand the piece of paper they gave me to be honest :(

Now I have typed it out I think I might be losing the plot.

Don't worry there's nothing you could've . It's totally natural and nothing to be worried about

Shock YABU to feel guilty!

YANBU to think you've lost the plot with that Grin

I don't know anything about what causes eyesight problems, but surely watching the goggle box causing it is a myth parents made up in the 1970's?

Definitely nothing to do with it making your DD's eyeball not entirely round.

If they're not bothered by it that's the main thing.

It sounds like your DC have completely different prescriptions so it's not something you've done/not done.

I have a brother and a sister but I'm the only one who wears glasses.
I went from perfect sight (passed my driving test at 18 in the February, needed glasses by the following year) .
My college training and work involves close up. Don't know if that's the cause but definately no computer etc in my day (very old)

Your DS - is it astignatism ? Eyeball rugby ball shaped? I have that.

My DD has reading glasses, she was getting headaches.

HulaHooperStormTrooper · 19/10/2013 00:25

That was why we went along to the optician, DD was complaining of headaches.

I had no idea that DS was having trouble with reading the board at school though.

I think she said DS has astigmatism yes
