I posted a fairly expensive nail varnish to a niece in Romania a few weeks ago. Anyway niece still had not received it this weekend. I then received a letter from the Post Office today explaining that they had destroyed the item as it was considered dangerous. I looked it up on the internet and as long as the item is under 30 ml and packaged correctly (I put it in a jiffy bag) it is fine to send but you have attach an ID8000 label. Explaining that there is nail varnish in there. I was completely unaware of this surely it should be the responsibility of the cashier at the Post Office to ask you what is in the item. I'm sure most people would not be aware of this.

Mmmm. I'm sitting on the fence to be honest.

When I've posted stuff to America I looked up what is and what isn't allowed to be posted. Iirc there were weird rules on posting food/chocolate which I wouldn't have known if I hadn't looked it up.

But yes, it would be nice if the PO person asked what was in it.

Our local post offices have posters up at the counter, and direct you to the poster asking if you have anything of the list in the package. Yanbu. I'd expect them to at least direct you to the poster.

I would always recommend checking the guidelines for posting items to foreign countries, as there are some very strange rules. Equally the cashier should have checked the item for you or at the very least asked whether you had so yourself.
