AIBU to go away and not do Christmas this year?

WIBU to book a holiday somewhere warm to be away on Christmas Day, not do Christmas shopping, not put a tree or decorations up at home, and not celebrate Christmas this year (other than by having a Christmas Day dip in a pool maybe!). The holiday would be instead of presents for us all including the boys who are 10/11 and 6. The "build up" to Christmas would be a build up to the holiday instead.

Is that a ridiculous idea?

I volunteered to go into work on Christmas Day just so that someone else has to cook the bloody turkey. YANBU.

Did it last Christmas. Stayed with SiL in Italy (Ischia), only five presents to buy, sent no cards had home cooked Italian specialities (lots of seafood - bliss) and sauntered around in warm sunshine. Wish I could do it every year.

Sounds excellent and will put the focus back onto family time and away from colecting trendy tat for presents. Also nobody ahs to cook.

Will there be older family members who feel a bit left out? do you need to do something for them at New year to compensate?

YANBU.

Normally I love Christmas, but the last couple of years things have changed. I am now dreading it getting nearer. I am going through the motions and have started getting stuff ready, but I feel so meh about it all.

If it wasn't for my Dad, who we visit on Boxing Day, I would go somewhere far away and forget about it

:(

Sounds wonderful, if only I had the nerve to do it!
However we have an "open house" type Christmas and it is nice to see friends and falily and entertain
Several people have already said to me that they are looking forward to coming to ours for Xmas already Shock
I would like someone else to occasionally cook the Xmas lunch.....buy the presents.....decorate the house....write the cards........ Grin

Oh God - what a fabulous idea! I was just saying to another mum yesterday that I wished Christmas was every other year, rather than every year. Not sure my DSs would go along with it though ...
