I don't much like YBF but my youngest finds it hilarious, I let him watch it occasionally because i love the way he laughs when he watches it.
However, he watched it last night and there was a clip where somebody is 'getting ready for a visit from Michael Gove' and the voice over was 'Up Yours Gove'

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, I don't think it is at all reasonable for a programme that children may watch. AIBU?

YABU.

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 15/10/2013 15:33

what?

WorraLiberty · 15/10/2013 15:33

Did it say up your arse?

If not then YABU

To a child it could mean up your nose, or the old expression 'stick it up your jumper'.

usualsuspect · 15/10/2013 15:37

Eh?

lizzzyyliveson · 15/10/2013 15:38

Disgraceful. Children should be protected from hearing about the Pob-faced creature until at least their 12th birthday.

UsedToBeNDP · 15/10/2013 15:38

I think very, very, few children have any idea who Michael Gove actually is and those who do would've been too busy laughing at the people falling over etc to even hear the supposed hidden political propoganda.

Or is the 'up yours' bit you are upset about ?

usualsuspect · 15/10/2013 15:38

Lol at 'stick it up your jumper'

Ain't heard that for years. I may post that on MN if someone's being a dick.

WorraLiberty · 15/10/2013 15:40

Oompa Loompa stick it up ya jumper

If you want to go the whole hog usual Grin

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 15/10/2013 15:40

I wasn't keen on the 'up yours' bit, a younger child could well think of it as 'up your nose' etc but to a 9/10 year old I think they may well decide to use it.

As for Gove, my DC's know my opinions about him Grin

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 15/10/2013 15:43

But a 9/10 year old would know not to use it, surely?

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 15/10/2013 15:58

I would hope not, but they would know that they could use it and may do so inappropriately. Of course it could have gone over their head.

SidandAndyssextoy · 15/10/2013 16:00

My guess is that your 9/10 year old knows far worse but is clever enough not to use his full vocabulary around you. The stuff in the naicest of playgrounds would make Gove blush.

TigOldBitties · 15/10/2013 16:04

YABU, I think they have worse language than that in Harry Potter.

I'd imagine your 9 or 10 year old has heard and knows much worse, I think up yours might be inappropriate for a 4 year old but not at 9 or 10 years old.

ShatnersBassoon · 15/10/2013 16:07

YABU. I saw that episode and 'Up yours Gove!' was the best bit of it.

WorraLiberty · 15/10/2013 16:20

Most 9/10 year olds will have heard the words fuck, cunt and wanker too...even just walking through town.

I'm quite sure they'll know not to use those words either.

You can't wrap them in cotton wool. You can only teach them what's right and wrong.

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 15/10/2013 17:24

Shatners we agree on it being the best bit as well, I did chuckle at it as well. Just not convinced it is appropriate when children will be watching.

OP posts:
ShatnersBassoon · 15/10/2013 17:28

It's not that bad. Not as bad as bloody or crap and I wouldn't flinch about hearing those with my children unless they started saying it themselves.

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/10/2013 17:42

Yabu

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 15/10/2013 17:52

I think it's worse than bloody, but each to their own - we all have different words we hate more than others. I had to laugh when my son was playing at being a Tudor - "I can't get the bloody sword out of her neck" - and feigned ignorance when I had words about his language..... :)

lborolass · 15/10/2013 17:56

I can't believe there's an episode of YBF that's modern enough to have a reference to Mr Gove, if I eery see it the clips are about 10 years old Grin.

FlapJackOLantern · 15/10/2013 18:02

but to a 9/10 year old I think they may well decide to use it.

If they know what it means at 9/10 they probably already DO use it Grin
