I see people who have had them done and all I can see is their eyebrows. Why do people do this to themselves?

AIBU? I think I must be the only person who thinks the trend for the HD brow is awful.

Have you seen 'educating Yorkshire'?? All the teenage girls on there have awful HD brows! Shock

Meglet · 15/10/2013 13:26

Yanbu. I have a lot of time for different looks / make-up / piercings / whatever....

But HD brows really aren't a good look on anyone. I've tried to watch Educatin Yorkshire but those brows Shock. Thin brows = great. Brooke Sheilds brows = great. Just not marker pen brows (or sperm brows, they're just as bad.

Binkyridesagain · 15/10/2013 13:29

My Dsis has HD brows, but that's because she has no natural eyebrows, she has alopecia.

Dawndonnaagain · 15/10/2013 13:32

I too have alopecia. I do however, get complimented on my eyebrows, I've been drawing them on for forty years, most people don't realise that they are drawn on.

Binkyridesagain · 15/10/2013 13:36

Dawn I think she does a fantastic job of drawing them on, they are perfect, the black sometimes can be very dominant especially when she wears her banana yellow wig, but it suits her personality.

thankfully most people see the whole package when looking at her.

gaggiagirl · 15/10/2013 13:37

I draw my brows on too and as dawn says most people have no idea they are made of pencil not hair.

AndysMildAdventures · 15/10/2013 13:37

You can't really call the brows on education yorkshire HD brows! Plus I wouldn't use teenage makeup application as your guidelines as to whether something looks good or we'd have to say foundation looks awful, eyeshadow looks awful, lipstick looks awful, blush looks awful etc.

UsedToBeNDP · 15/10/2013 13:41

I love a properly 'done' brow with full make up, very chic (this post should really be in style and wotsit) but as an everyday thing it looks too much, imo.

Norudeshitrequired · 15/10/2013 13:43

HD brows / scouse brows are just awful. They just look like something from a cartoon.

YANBU!
My DS's teacher has AWFUL reddish HD eyebrows and whenever I talk to her I can't look at her anywhere else and I get distracted by them because I can't help wonder whether she knows how awful they look!

hiddenhome · 15/10/2013 14:42

Oh, I didn't realise people did this. I was wondering why some women were looking odd these days Confused

Funghoul · 15/10/2013 14:52

I have hd brows done, but I don't pencil/powder them like the woman who does them. I usually just leave them as they are. I have them done because I really over plucked as a teen and it's really helped to get a proper shape back. It's not the waxing and tinting that causes the scouse brow look, it's when they apply the powder and pencil them in at the end. My eyebrows just look normal when not pencilled how they like, but then I have quite dark hair so dark eyebrows doesn't look weird on me.

mylittlesunshine · 15/10/2013 14:59

I have rather full black eyebrows and I do shape them so they aren't quite full but seeing as I have dark brown hair they probably do look HD and people probably laugh at me!

WorraLiberty · 15/10/2013 15:05

Oh god I was just thinking about some of the eyebrows on Educating Yorkshire.

100's of kids in the corridor and yet the fat, black slug brows seem to jump out of the TV screen!

Venushasrisen · 15/10/2013 15:35

They are awful and just distract you from the face - all you can see is brows, they just remind me of pantomime.

Do they shave off their real brows or what?

CloverkissSparklecheeks · 15/10/2013 16:05

I don't like them at all, particularly on fair haired people as they have blonde hair and really dark brown eyebrows. I'm not that keen about them on dark haired people either but at least it doesn't look completely weird.

I have no idea why people actually think they look good.

CloverkissSparklecheeks · 15/10/2013 16:07

It is totally different drawing browns on due to alopecia or something but I am talking about the giant black brows that people have. THe shape of HD brows is so unnatural.

UriGHOULer · 15/10/2013 16:14

While we're here can I please say a word about the travesty that is men getting their eyebrows shaped?

I've seen loads of youngish men with a slapped shiny bit of skin between their brows and very Lazytown eyebrows.

Someone should point out that they'll never grow back normally and they'll end up looking like David Gest in their later years.

Norudeshitrequired · 15/10/2013 16:55

It is totally different drawing browns on due to alopecia or something but I am talking about the giant black brows that people have. THe shape of HD brows is so unnatural.

I totally agree with this and one of the girls on educating Yorkshire has a huge scar due to something that happened early in life (I can't remember what) and wearing make up is her confidence mask, including the eyebrows as it helps her to feel more 'normal'. In situations like that and cases of alopecia it makes sense to have tattooed eyebrows.
But those big black slug like eyebrows that seems to be the current trend are just so comical. When I was at school the trend was for ridiculously thin over plucked eyebrows or vertical lines shaved into your eyebrows, fortunately I wasn't interested In Either of those trends because those girls that did those random things to their eyebrows are now having them tattooed into ridiculous oversized slug like things in order to get back what they originally had as they don't always grow back fully.
