Little one, ds2, is showing a few traits. Like lack of sleep. Is it going to happen again?

I may be wrong but I thought there was about a 70% chance of other siblings having it due to the genetic link and its more common in boys. I did some reading as we wanted more after ds1 (under testing at the mo). How old is your ds2? I found lots of traits were just normal toddler behaviour, my ds2 has some traits but seems a much more calmer child (keeps fingers crossed)

Your younger son could aslo just be coping what his older brother is doing my sister was panicked with this and it turned out this

Shellywelly1973 · 14/10/2013 02:14

Its hard to tell at 2 yrs old. There appears to be a predisposition if ADHD is in the family.

My ds8 has a dx of ASD & ADHD.

Ds5 is being assessed for ASD. Its hard but it was worse with my first as it was all so scary. I know what I am doing this time. It meansmI'm not so easily upset. I have strong coping skills & tactics...or in other words take no shit & have the skin of a rhino!!

Take care op. Take each day as it comes & dont worry about tomorrow until tomorrow! X

Probably Sad

I desperately tried to ignore the signs in DD2 but we got her dx once she turned 6.

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, really busy day! Thanks for thoughts. I think I'll just keep an eye on him, and hopefully, if there is an issue, be more prepared to support him.

Sorry, DS2 is 14 months. Thanks for messages, thinking of the others of you that are a bit worried too, and taking heart from advice.

If it's any consolation, my brother rarely sleeps (never did as a baby either) and he definitely does not have ADHD. Just doesn't need much sleep. Even now, he's perfectly happy staying up till 3-4 am then getting up to go to work at a 'normal' time (like 7:30 maybe).

At 14 months, it really is too early to tell. I'd keep an eye and raise concerns, if you still have them, at his 2 year check,

Boaty · 15/10/2013 07:30

I've just been researching the adult version..DS1 showed some traits as a small boy but we managed them. He is now having problems as an adult. He refuses to accept there is a problem..getting an adult to ask is interesting!

vole3 · 15/10/2013 07:40

With a first child, especially if they're like others in the extended family, you take it as normal exuberant behaviour. I know I did!
Second time around you're more tuned in, but I echo the others in saying he may just be copying his older brother. Sleep routines come easily for some, but not others, so don't write him and yourself off yet.

Donkeyok · 15/10/2013 15:02

My ds 8 is being investigated for ADHD and yet slept brilliantly. Where as his ds 11 slept poorly and doesn't have any LD.

kalms1971 · 15/10/2013 15:18

Our 7 year old has ADHD, medication and sleeps well. At a support group there were 15 parents and some slept well and some hardly slept at all. They are all different :)

lollylaughs · 15/10/2013 15:21

Ds has ADD and always slept well. I honestly think 14 months is too early to know. Ds commando crawled at 5 months, crawled properly at 6 months and walked at 8.5 months. This I believe are quite good indicators. Also ear infections. Not sure why but AD/HD children tend to suffer with ear problems from babies. He had 12 infections in 12 months...

There are some physical identifying things to look out for:

Epicanthic folds of the eye,
Ocular hyperteleorsism (widely spaced eyes giving the appearance of a wide nasal bridge)
Curved little finger
Simian palmer fold (a single palmer fold)
Webbed toes (between 2nd and 3rd toe)
Unusually large 1st toe space
Absent or non dependant ear lobes
High palate
Facial asymmetry
