We have had lovely weather today. But you wouldn't know it based on the BBC weather. AMBU to say that weather is not the preserve of London and the SE?

BTW, I am in the NW, lovely, sunny, dry and not windy.

YANBU. I don't live in London, Birmingham, Newcastle or Glasgow, which according to the weather is very wrong of me. Usually the weather refers to 2 cities in my region- both of which are at least an hour and a half away (and that's on the 'local' news).

SE weather has been v crap.

There have been many occasions when I've heard about the horrid weather in Scotland or NI or the North while sitting in the balmy SE. They just don't report average or nice weather - has to be horrid or very hot for it to be worth commenting on.

I'm sure during the winter you will get your weather reports.

They pretty much stand with their head in front of it for most of the time

Yanbu I'm in the north east. If there is an inch of snow in the south it's all over the news yet up here we are digging our cars out, walking miles to work in deep snow where you can't even tell where the path ends and the road starts. Yet all news reports are focused down south snowed in means you can't get out your house here!

So frustrating. North of M25 (including ALL of Scotland) gets about 8 seconds the rest of the 5 minute forecast time is taken up on London and South East. :)

NW also, Cheshire. Always annoys me that the weather report gives 6 ish cities and none of them are close to me. Half the time the report is utter tosh anyway.

As an aside, and as has been discussed many times before (and somebody will come along who lives in London and tell me I'm wrong....but...) The BBC National news - we all need to know everything that happens in London all the time BECAUSE LONDON IS IMPORTANT.

God I wish they'd realise not many people, other than Londonders, give a flying feck about the day to day banalities of London.

I hear, from similar threads on here, that if we think the London-centric thing is annoying you should try being Scottish - 10 times worse apparently.

If you don't live in London then you don't get any weather, or so the forecasters would have you believe.

I know. I'm not way up in the far north, only Yorkshire. We'd had about 6 weeks of snow before it hit the national news last year. Was so bad people were walking in the road to get to work as the pavements were several inches thick in solid packed ice in some places & obviously useless to walk on. Was it in the news? Not until London & surrounding area got hit.

This is just chippy bollocks. I'm in the SE and was thinking just this morning how little information they give before zooming away up to Scotland. In fact, the opening sentence this morning was about how it was nice up there today, unlike the South, which has been shit.

I live in London and always seem to miss the bit about London on the weather report. I only lose concentration for a second.

I watch, I remind myself to pay attention, I miss it! Every time. Attention span of a gnat.

Try living in Wales, you are constantly hidden under the weather persons waving hand, and Northern Ireland is obliterated behind their body with no more than a cursory mention.

Pisses me off no end when the summary says what a dreadful day its been today - err no it was lush in Wales thanks I dried two lines of washing, ahh but a shower in London means the end of the world.

Wait until the snow starts - big snowfall in the Cairngorms last week no mention on the reports, two flakes in London in January its white out conditions.

Well you could look on it as a compliment. The implication is that people in 'not the SE' are hardy types who are used to hardship and cope with whatever the weather throws at them, while southerners are pathetic specimens who will faint at the thought of getting a bit damp.

Pixel has a point. A couple of inches of snow falls in London and it comes to a standstill, a couple of inches falls up here in the north and WE barely register it and just carry on, until it's about half a foot deep I don't even check for school closures.

Op yanbu i dont live in a major city and we never seem to have weather here and it really annoys me when the weather man says oh it is very windy/snowy/sunny in X area and that is supposed to be everybodies weather [hm]

North of the M25 is still buried under a sheet of ice, there are some humans there but they live in caves with their pigeons and whippets, wearing flat caps to keep warm.

I live but 50 miles out of London and the weather here is usually very different from London's. In the winter with the east winds we often have deep snow when London doesn't. It is what it is.

I recall an oft-quoted geography O level question about why the weather in Kent is frequently worse than the weather in the west of Scotland. (Siberian winds and Gulf Stream)

I suggest looking out of the window to see what the weather is doing in your locality! ;)

YANBU. It's very London-centric. If they refer to the "far north of Scotland" where is it far from? London of course.

I also find it very annoying when the weather(wo)man blathers on about sporting events and the weather they'll be getting there. Surely the small percentage of the population who'll be at the golf/tennis/cricket can work out from the normal forecast what the weather will be like there?

Well let me see... Wales - 3 million people. Scotland 4 million people.

London - 12 million people. London AND the SE - God knows how many people.

YABU to expect the national weather to give as much time to Scotland and Wales.

You'll have to listen to local radio for local weather. Or look it up online (which is what I do anyway).
