to think that £4.80 for a bottle of ale is ridiculous, wedding related!

I attended the wedding of a friend of mine at the weekend and I was shocked at the prices of the drinks. A bottle of lager and half a coke cost £7!!! Why is it as soon as you mention "wedding" the price just goes sky high. £4.80 for a bottle of local ale and £4.90 for a small wine.
Let me just say that this is a pretty rural area so it's really not in keeping with the area.
I dread to think of what the food may have cost them if the price of drinks was anything to go by.

Well, we went out to dinner last night and DH's bottle of local ale cost £4.90 and a glass of wine couldn't be had for less than £4.50 so those prices sound normal to me!

We picked our venue for a few reasons but a major factor was that the drinks were sold at "club" prices which meant although we couldn't afford to fund the bar, our guests didn't feel the pinch too badly.

Gosh, my husband loves his ale and its usually the cheaper option drinks wise. We do go to a lovely pub local to us and my husband generally pays around £3 a pint and a large wine (250ml) is £4.75 and that is the higher end of what we would pay here for a large wine.
Its just so gutting to keep handing over £10 notes and only get 10 or 30 pence back. I wish I'd smuggled in a bottle of vodka now :)

£9.60 for a glass of wine at the cinema last time I was there!

Oh I love a wedding thread :)

The venue where I had my wedding sold pints at £2:30.

Depends on the strength of the ale to be honest, if it a stout that is 7%+ in strength then that doesn't sound too bad but if it is a pale ale or hoppier ale then it is pricey.

fiddlemethis · 13/10/2013 22:33

It was a bog standard about 4- 4.5% ale, local too I think. Bloody norah £9.60 for a glass of wine?!?!?
