AIBU to be agreeing with Sinead O'Connor

Perhaps ye have seen the media frenzy around Sinead O'Connor's open letters to Miley Cyrus?
www.sineadoconnor.com/2013/10/4th-open-letter-to-miley-cyrus/

Personally, I would have phrased it differently, but I do think Sinead was
trying to reach a young female audience, trying to highlight a major issue
in contemporary media, using the fact that Miley named her as an influence to try to highlight the issue of not needing to take your clothes off to sell records, and to also highlight how damaging these images / attitudes are to young women.
I admire Sinead for talking so openly and frankly about mental illness, and for scolding brat Miley for sneering at it. I have always admired Sinead, even if I didn't always agree with her.
Some people think she is madder than a bag of wasps & dimiss her, but I think she has made some relevant points, & has tried to use her fame to spread a good message for girls.
I have watched a few Sinead interviews and vids with my DS to tell her about Sinead, because she was playing Wrecking Ball parody vids and wrecking my head.
Sinead might have tatooed B and Q on her cheeks but Sinead is Sinead, she does this stuff, and is always 100% into whatever it is she's into at the time. She would be a good MNer, because she likes swear words, and I think she has smashed cakes in some of her videos. She ripped the Popes picture up too.

I don't usually jump on media hyped up crap, but I think Sinead is raising some huge issues at a time when there is a tide of irrelevant superficial crap in pop music and popular culture.

Does anyone else feel that they support Sinead in this?

Yes, and you'll love picking over the pieces if she does 'fall', you sanctimonious bunch of grief whores.

If Sinead really cared she could have done it privately. The open letter was deeply patronising and uncalled for.

And now Amanda Palmer, a woman even more annoying than Sinead and Miley, and that is saying something, has got in on the act with an open letter to both of them.

Should any of them be members here, here's mine to all 3 I'm bored with all of you.

SaucyJack · 13/10/2013 22:20

She's not a "kid" of any description Sunshine.

She's a grown woman with a multi-million dollar career.

Stop belittling her.

Sallystyle · 13/10/2013 22:20

Miley is getting what she wants, to be talked about.

Sinead didn't care about Miley, she made it public, for what reason I do not know.

This is where Miley wants to be, the best of luck to her.

MrsLouisTheroux · 13/10/2013 22:26

sugar: Sinead is a very pure artist, raw and gutsy and intelligent.
No, SO'Cs 'talent' was manufactured in the same way as Miley whatever her name's is. That is why SO'C is having her little rant. She can't stand the fact that she herself sold out to make ££s and is trying to convince the world that she didn't by telling Miley not to be used.

bellasuewow · 13/10/2013 23:03

I agree with president so wrote some awful things she was really putting a younger woman down and what she wrote was bullying she does not care for miley Cyrus as she claims she does i think she is behaving like a jealous sanctimonious old bitch who takes herself so seriously so sad to see an older woman treating a younger one like this. Miley is right to take the piss out of her. As far as I am concerned a young woman can express herself as she wishes and does not need to apologise to me or anyone else about it. Sad to see women attacking women go sisters.....

Caitlin17 · 14/10/2013 00:04

I don't know what "twerking" is. If I Google it, it's not something I will wish I could unknow?

IAmNotAMindReader · 14/10/2013 00:18

Miley is milking the media machine for all she can get. She knows under normal circumstances she's got a limited shelf life.
A few years ago she was quoted on a radio interview saying only idiots do drugs, now her records contain drug references.
She utters sound bite that are as offensive as possible. All in the name of publicity. She has taken the same stance that record companies do that infamy and fame are the same thing.

She is a powerful person in her own right being a 2nd generation star in the business. That means she's less likely to end up a tragic headline and will be one of those who go off the rails and come good in the end. All probably carefully stage managed. Others aren't that lucky to know how to protect themselves.

She is still offering up a terrible example to females. Female sexuality is a glorious thing yet how come pop videos and the entertainment industry twist and debase it?
Powerful characters who just happen to be female get their just desserts. They don't have to be ball breakers even, just know their own minds and yet they end up put in situations which demean all they worked towards as if its a punishment for stepping outside of the acknowledged stereotypes.

IAmNotAMindReader · 14/10/2013 00:22

Unfortunately apart from some of the valid comments about how she was belittling mental health problems. The whole affair has a bit of a staged feel to it. Wrecking ball and nothing compares to you have similar themes and shots in their videos. Some have even said the score has similarities but I haven't listened that closely to be able to tell.
It has the smell of a few wads of cash floating around for all.

Caitlin17 · 14/10/2013 00:28

Slightly off topic but still kicking myself for not noticing the Fleetwood Mac tour in time to get a ticket that wouldn't involve remortgaging, but what about a big round of applause for Stevie Nicks? She was and still is absolutely stunning, sexy as anything in her Welsh witch dresses and, from interviews, sane, sensible, self deprecating and funny.

mrsjay · 14/10/2013 08:55

, and you'll love picking over the pieces if she does 'fall', you sanctimonious bunch of grief whores.

how dramatic

I actually think people want miley to do well and not end up in rehab or arrested for DUIs or whatever they don't want a 20 yr old girl to be so out of control that she is ranting all over the internet and makking a bit of a show of herself, people are celebrating a girl who is out of control and putting her at number one
