Verbally abused by a young drunk guy? It wouldn't have happened in fucking Waitrose :)

I've been verbally abused in waitrose actually!!

Yanbu though, you should be able to do your shopping anywhere you like in peace without any abuse.

susiedaisy · 13/10/2013 13:50

Yanbu.

Around here you are more likely to be verbally abused in asda. And judged and looked down on in waitroseWink

feelinlucky · 13/10/2013 13:58

You just can't win can you! Apparently my head is too far up my arse because I didn't get into repeated conversations with him about his purchases or advise him properly about where to buy bedding. I was really worried that he would follow me. He was quite menacing.

Next time, reply in French.

Renniehorta · 13/10/2013 14:01

Don't whatever you do reply in French. That is a guaranteed way to suffer verbal abuse.

I do wonder about waitrose and the expected calibre of customer. My husband was muttered about in waitrose once. He said two women were giving him evils and muttering about why people like him were in there. We found this extremely funny given that 'people like him' would mean rocket scientists, astro-physicists and other uber-nerds. We didn't realise the waitrose bar was set so high :o

That said, 'people like him' are often so engrossed in things beyond the understanding of us mere mortals that they do tend to take on the appearance of homeless vagabonds.

Grin Oh yes. In fact the most dangerous and derelict-looking person I met in my twenties was a professor at Oxford. When he accosted me to ask me to relay a message to my OH, I nearly decked him in fright.

Sorry, drunk abuse is compulsory in Lidl. Think yourself lucky he was young, not old and smelling of wee like the one our local Lidl has.

Lj8893 · 13/10/2013 14:13

My verbal abuse in waitrose was from an older "gentleman" and his wife. "Urgh, I didn't think pregnant teenagers could afford to shop here"
"Oh yes dear, look at her partner, he can afford to shop here with his dole money"

I'm 25! And my dp has never claimed benefits (because he's been lucky to have always had a successful job)

I really wish I had said something to them!

YoniBottsBumgina · 13/10/2013 14:21

Lidl is pretty safe here in Germany. Netto, though, you get some weirdos in there. DP got accosted by a drunk man yesterday and another time a French bloke interrogated me for ages about cheese, even after I explained I'm sorry, but I have no idea what kind of cheese is traditionally German, because firstly I'm allergic to cheese, and secondly I'm not German and had only lived here for 3 weeks!

Haha, Hissy I think you're probably right. Oh how I wish I at the very least learned eggo language :)
