My dd was invited to a birthday party today 2 hours away (inc motorway travel). 10 children were being taken to it in a Land Rover with side facing seats and no seat belts. I refused the lift and party invite due to this. No other parent had an issue with this, and another mum who's dd was going was really shocked that I wouldn't let mine go.

Was IBU?

YANBU. You're lucky you found out beforehand. I don't even let DCs travel in cars with lap belts and they know they're not allowed to use them. They have to say 'my mum says I'm not allowed to sit here' if a parent tries to make them use one.
