Money taken out my account a week before it's meant to be.

Littlewoods have taken money out of my account today which leaves me with £17 for a week. I set up a direct debit to come out on the 19th, when I get paid. I don't know why they've taken it today. This is the first month this had happened.

I'm really, really skint until payday and I need food for me and ds for the week. Aibu to phone them and demand that they refund the money and take it again on the date I stated?

Cancel the direct debit today and set up a standing order...they probably won't give it back but you can call them to ask why they've done it....make sure it does not happen again by setting up a standing order asap.

Phone the bank and raise an indemtity claim. Npower dod this to me and I got the money back the same day.

contact your bank and ask them to do a chargeback - they can do this under the dd indemnity as the money has been claimed incorrectly and against the terms of the direct debit. They can put the money back in your account today and then claim back from Littlewoods.

it is covered by the direct debit guarantee so phone your bank and get them to return the direct debit.

Meant indemnity claim

Apparently littlewoods just take direct debits whenever they feel like it, so I've been told. This is was not explained to me when I ordered. Lesson learned - never buy anything on credit!

they need to give you a date of payment and an amount, they cant just take what they want when they want - it is in the terms of the direct debit guarantee linked to above:

The Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits

If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit the organisation will notify you (normally 10 working days) in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request the organisation to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request

If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit, by the organisation or your bank or building society, you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society

If you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when the organisation asks you to

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify the organisation.
