I love Dame Edna Smile.

I love Dame Edna too. So cruel but loveable. I loved Dame Edna's Neighbourhood Watch with Madge going through people's knickers drawers.

I CAN'T STAND Dame Edna, so much so that I didn't make my annual trip to Proms in the Park because 'she' was appearing. Light and Sparkling I do, however, LOVE 'Kith 'n' Keem', watched it many times on telly and 'doi voi doi'. "Ya great big hunk a spunk". BRILLIANT.

Well, my fellow Nobdies find me quite amusing actually. Grin

Louise1956 · 11/10/2013 20:43

I haven't watched her for a long time, but I always found her quite funny.

LessMissAbs · 11/10/2013 20:43

Love him/her. Her, I think.

LazyGaga · 11/10/2013 20:47

Love Dame Edna, love Kath and Kim too. There was a little K and K appreciation thread a couple of weeks ago with all the catchphrases...noice.

SockQueen · 11/10/2013 20:55

Can't stand her. She was "performing" at Proms in the Park this year, it was embarrassing and awful. I know she's supposed to be annoying, but why is that funny??

I have never laughed at Miranda, I want to find her funny, I really do. My friends all gush about her but I can't even raise a smile. I quite like her character on Call the Midwife, she is better at acting than comedy.

Love DameEdna. She knows her Beverages....

Can't find a professional level critique of Dame Edna. Funny is funny and I have noticed over time that there are times when Dame Edna has me on the floor and then other times i'm gazing in wonder as to why, with 60 years of doing this gag, she allows herself to bomb so, so often and so bad. Answer: somewhere along the line, she stopped have material prepared and just starting ad-libbing every thing. There are a few exceptions but only when she is on a major show. Look at her apprearance on the View. That is Dame Edna at her best. She is polished, she has jokes planned ahead and the folks were on the floor. When she read Peter and the Wolf for the Australian Symphony - perfection!! But rare is the time she does that and I think she suffers as an artist because of it. Somewhere along the lines Dame Edna stop preparing for appearances and even most of her ticketed shows are off the cuff, and instead you get the feeling that before she comes out you can here her say, "Let's just wing it!" Sadly, it seems recently she bombs more than she scores as a result. Probably good that she's packed it up.

Barry Humphries is very very clever. Edna is satire at its best imho.

BringMeTea · 15/04/2016 09:33

And I DON'T care that this a zombie thread.

OurBlanche · 15/04/2016 09:43

I was going to say how surprised I was that Barrie Humphries was on telly... I thought he was busy with a newish radio show and a tour... not bad for 81!

If it makes anyone who posted all those years ago feel any better he doesn't always like Dame Edna either Smile

(ignore the headline, the article isn't centred on that at all)

The80sweregreat · 15/04/2016 10:32

I have never liked him - Dame Edna isnt funny but the worst one is that bloke he plays too with stains on his shirt - cant remember the name of the character but he is horrible. not a fan i'm afraid, although what Barry Humphries is like I have no idea!

OurBlanche · 15/04/2016 10:42

Sir Les Patterson, Cultural Attaché to the Court of St James and Chairperson of the Australian Chapter of the International Cheese Board.

He is supposed to be horrible. Satire usually is.

Toxicity · 15/04/2016 11:13

YABU - I think Dame Edna is brilliant!!

GirlOverboard · 15/04/2016 11:15

I think she's a lot funnier than any current female comedian to be honest. Her comic timing is perfect and her putdown of Piers Morgan was just genius:

The Matt Lucas and David Walliams interview from the same episode is great too:
