AIBU to wonder when you stopped showing ID to board a domestic flight?

Just that really. I took 4 domestic flights this week for work, booked online, checked in on line and not once was I asked for ID. I thought you had to show a passport or driving licence to board any domestic flight, but I just had to scan my printed out boarding pass at security and at the gate. So theoretically it needn't have been me flying.

I didn't show anything when I flew this past July either. Very odd.

Rosa · 09/10/2013 17:23

I did .... I did a national then a european. Id was checked for the national on check in and then again when boarding the european.
When coming over ID was checked at the gate for the national. Was travelling with dc ...i thought it was obligatory??

lilola · 09/10/2013 17:28

I didn't have to show anything the last 2 times I flew (from Scotland to England and back) Weird

Suzieismyname · 09/10/2013 17:28

I flew domestic a few weeks ago and did have to show id.

bludgerwitch · 09/10/2013 18:18

We flew from NI to England and I had to show my driver's license when handing over my luggage both ways, no one ever asked DH for any ID.

Soupqueen · 09/10/2013 18:49

Depends on the airline. Some ask for id, some don't. It's been a little while since I flew but, from memory, BA don't ask.

7to25 · 09/10/2013 18:54

Yes, BA don't but others do

kali110 · 09/10/2013 19:24

Thats disgusting! Id should allways be shown.

NicknameIncomplete · 09/10/2013 19:31

Can i just ask if kids dont have a passport can they still fly? What do they show instead (well thats if they get asked)

TEErickOrTEEreat · 09/10/2013 19:55

I was flying BA. And it was Belfast to London.

Disgusting? In what way?

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 09/10/2013 19:58

Why is it disgusting? Confused

People aren't leaving the country, it's like getting on a train.

Cuddlydragon · 09/10/2013 20:11

It made me feel a bit "ummmm", don't know why because I'd gone through security and everything, it just felt a bit wrong.

Why, what possible difference can it make to anyone who you are? You're brainwashed to want "security" that doesn't make anyone any more secure.

Cuddlydragon · 09/10/2013 23:24

Really? Brainwashed?

OP posts:
jacks365 · 09/10/2013 23:33

When I was looking into my daughter flying internally the rules stated was that id was required for checked luggage. If you didn't need to check luggage you don't need to show id.

PeppiNephrine · 10/10/2013 08:14

yep. We're all brainwashed. Or socially conditioned if you prefer. Evidence: someone above said it was "disgusting" that you didn't get ID'd on an internal flight, they have a pavlovian response plane-intense security. You have similar yourself, for no good reason in this case.
Unless you're surprised that you don't need ID to get on a bus, why would this surprise?

TiaMariaandSpringCleaning · 10/10/2013 08:46

I fly back and forth Belfast to England quite regularly and always have my ID checked. In fact they don't even say 'ID', I'm always specifically asked for my passport. (presumably another form of ID would be ok though). I wounder if i just look a bit dodgy... Confused

TEErickOrTEEreat · 10/10/2013 13:09

I wouldn't say brainwashed. I would say fooled into thinking it makes one iota of difference.
