I mean, there is no such thing as a free lunch as they say.
can't they just lower prices instead?
I just don't see the point.

I think they're great. If it's something you're going to buy anyway, why not do it through a cashback site. Topcashback offers to convert your cashback into Tesco clubcard points which means that when you can double or triple your points for restaurants or whatever you're quids in.

FracturedViewOfLife · 08/10/2013 22:26

I have nearly £300 on my topcashback account so YABU

CleverWittyUsername · 08/10/2013 22:33

Yup YABU. Quidco has been brill.

Chocolatehunter · 08/10/2013 22:40

It works, give it a go.

YANBU. I'd rather just pay less than have all the timewasting faff of points, cashback, being advertised at, picking the best "offers" and so on.

ilovesooty · 08/10/2013 22:50

I use Quidco for things I would have bought anyway: particularly coach and train tickets. I've had over £300 back in two years. I think not using a cashback site when you can for the same price is silly.

whattodoo · 08/10/2013 22:56

Quidco works for us ' only spend on things I would have bought anyway and have had loads of cash back.

Although I agree, if there is sufficient profit margin in the product to offer the discount, why not just make the retail price cheaper in the first place?

sashh · 09/10/2013 06:07

It is well worth it if you are buying something big, I got £200+ for a computer.

can't they just lower prices instead?

This is a form of advertising, I have chosen to buy certain products or from certain retailers because the cashback would make a difference. Often the cashback is on top of what looks to be the cheapest anyway.

FamiliesShareGerms · 09/10/2013 06:54

I agree. It's a bit like Pizza Express are clearly charging over the odds as they can afford to give everyone 20% off or set menu deals with vouchers and codes.

I guess, as sassh says, it's advertising and using Internet presence to raise their profile. I've used Quidco for things I was buying anyway and have got back quite a bit eg when we did the bathroom. That was nice, but I did think "why can't Topps Tiles just take £50 off the price rather than faff around with cash back?"

Fairyloo · 09/10/2013 07:02

I am confused about how it works although I use it.

How is going through quidco good for the retailer??

WaitMonkey · 09/10/2013 07:50

I love cash back sites. I save all my cash back for my Christmas shopping. Grin

BMW6 · 09/10/2013 07:56

YABU. I get money back every month on mortgage, water, gas & elec bills, Sky subs through Santander 123 a/c.
Better in my bank a/c than the banks!

Will have a look at Quidco as well now I think!

MTBMummy · 09/10/2013 08:29

It's all about using your data what you purchase when to enable comapnies to profile their customers and offer prices/new products that match the demographic they cater for. That said last year we bought a new 32 inch telly with points and paid for christmas dinner with them, and already have another £300 to spend. I'm happy

AnythingNotEverything · 09/10/2013 08:34

YABU. There is such a thing as a free lunch, but you have to work a little harder to get it Smile

We make around £100 per year through Quidco and £200 per year through a cash back credit card, all for buying things we would buy anyway.

Martin Lewis' weekly email has some great tips this week about making it work for you.
