To think that 8pm is far too late for a cold caller...?

Just had someone buzzing my flat, which I ignored because I wasn't expecting anyone. Then about 5 minutes later I had a knock on my flat door. It was a guy from shelter Scotland. I opened the door and told him I didn't have time to talk this late.

I have issues with people gettin into my close and knocking on my flat door, have had it happen when I was home alone at 2am with some drunk guy who was clearly looking for my scummy neighbours, but it was proper hammering and very intimidating.

WIBU if I contacted shelter to let them know that 8pm is far too late?

Iirc from my days as a telephone caller, 9pm is the legal cut off. Any time can be annoying (3pm as working; 4pm as trying to get homework focused; 5pm as juggling tea; 7pm as bathtime; 8pm as putting kids to bed....) so I don't think contacting Shelter would be worthwhile.

I don't get that many in person cold callers any more (I do have one of those yellow stickers, but tbh I suspect it's just something that is tailing off naturally) but I find a firm "Sorry, now's not a good time/I don't buy o donate at the door" combined with shutting the door works absolutely fine.

PS I did NOT sell PPI - I was doing legitimate, market research (sometimes paying for people's time) - before anyone lynches me. A polite no thank you was all I needed to fuck off

Incidentally, how early are they allowed to call? I would find it much more annoying to be woken than disturbed when having dinner!

Not really. They can call or visit till 9pm. People are working later and later.

I wouldnt go mad if they were visiting my neighbour though, nothing to do with me. If i was her if have been insulted someone was interfereing.

8pm isn't too late, although cold callers are annoying at any time of day.
There will be times that are 'bad time' in everyone's life, and, to be fair, the cold callers can't possibly know the daily routine of everyone the call on!

8pm is ok. Anything after 9 would be annoying.
