AIBU blaming cerezette?

I've been on cerezette for about 8 years now , apart from coming off of it to conceive my daughter in 2011 born 2012. I've found it hard to shift my tummy and hip flab as I call it and can only maintain my weight not loose anything. I can only think it's cerezette. I don't eat perfectly but I do walk/cycle 4 miles a day abd eat around 1800 calories a day. But a I wrong I. Thinking this pill is keeping my weight on?

Hate it.
Been on it since June and I've noticed weight gain, I get angry more easily, I'm spotty, I get period like pains every 3 weeks still, my hair has thinned.
The only good thing was that I have no periods but even so, I'm not likeling it now because I am paranoid that I could be pregnant (we are coming off it in the new year to conceive numebr 2) and I don't feel 'womanly' not having a monthly AF.
I am considering sterilisation after number 2. My friend had it done on Wednesday and she says it's no different to a smear now. She was in and out within 20 minutes!!!!

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 08/10/2013 21:57

it's pretty dire
it makes me eat like a beast and I have a chin full of spots pretty much all the time
unfortunately I have migraines so can now only take the mini-pill
am waiting for DH to get the all-clear after his second (!) vasectomy...

Kundry · 08/10/2013 22:01

Well if it has reduced my libido, DH will be positively scared of me if I stop it!

Not thought of all the money saved on sanpro before!

If you have put on weight and lost it, unfortunately you will tend to put it back on and more (looks at own fat stomach and recent comfort eating, vows to try to not return to bad habits) - increasingly there is evidence to suggest that once you have been fat your metabolism changes to keep it that way. There is a longterm study of people who have successfully kept weight off in America and what they all have in common is a complete obsessiveness - weighing themselves everyday, never having a 'day off' the diet at weekends or special occasions etc. Very very few people can do this which is why a year after a successful diet, most people weight more than when they started it Sad I've recently lost 2 stone, am still very overweight, it's creeping back on and I really and truly know the pill has feck all responsibility for that.

Lonelybunny · 08/10/2013 22:07

Well as a 28 year old who doesn't sit on arse all

I've just lost 2.5 stone whist taking Cerazette, so I didn't have that problem. I have just stopped taking it now though, as I had long periods with it (3 weeks at a time!).

fluffypillow · 08/10/2013 22:11

Just to add, I've been on the 5:2 plan........fab if you're looking for weight loss Wink

CaptainSweatPants · 08/10/2013 22:14

20 minutes for a sterilisation op? I thought it was a Major deal?

Lonelybunny · 08/10/2013 22:23

I don't want to get sterilised . We may have another child in the next two years , plus I'm 28 would the accept me to b sterilised ?

Has anyone else experienced hair loss? I found this pill fab, no pain, mood swings, no flooding no weight gain. it may be just stress but I am losing more hair then my cousin who is having chemo. Sad

Lonelybunny · 08/10/2013 22:27

Yes me ! I lost lots of hair after baby 3 which is normal. She is now 18 months and I'm losing loads again . It's not good

Sad I used to have hair so thick an elastic would go around a pony tail twice with difficulty, now it goes at least 5times, Hair needs to be cut and dyed but am afraid to do it. my pillow is covered every morning.
Congrats on you babyThanks they are worth losing some hair forGrin

Funghoul · 08/10/2013 23:13

Interesting to see others with hair loss like mine. I put it down to having dd but since taking cerezette it's been much worse.

HopLittleFroggiesHopSkipJump · 09/10/2013 00:47

I also got pregnant on cerazette, seems a slightly common theme!

Lonelybunny · 09/10/2013 08:12

Great stories here , glad it's not just me !

Yanbu, I took it for 6 weeks and bled constantly during them, ended up anaemic :(. The gp has given me noriday now but I darent start taking them as a) he never bothered checking my blood pressure or ask any health related questions and b) I've not had a period since getting pregnant with now 5 mo DD and I'm worried it might set off a long bleed like the evil cerazette did.

Lonelybunny · 09/10/2013 09:15

I've not had a period for years , that can't be a good thing can it :-/

BitterOldOtter · 09/10/2013 10:22

I was fine whilst I was on it, worked really well though I did gain weight.

I've been off it for almost a year now and:

  • my weight has not shifted, despite dieting carefully all i can do is maintain
  • my hair has thinned considerably
  • i still have zero libido
  • i have terrible spider veins all over my legs

I am not entirely sure it's all down to the pill but my GP felt it will have at least contributed. I'm thoroughly miserable about it :(

boatclub · 09/10/2013 10:44

I put on a far bit of weight whilst taking cezerette mainly because I got pregnant with DS2

Cheerymum · 09/10/2013 10:50

I found it ok but it totally killed my libido stone dead. Didn't plan on the contraceptive effect being due to abstinence ...
I now have 3 dds (inc 3 week old twins) and I plan on using the Mirena coil (has progesterone in it so stops periods gor most people, but minimal systemic effects eg wt gain, spots, loss of libido etc. and it lasts 5 years, but is reversible ...
Worth a thought if you need something long term? The friends I have who are on it swear by it.

Fakebook · 09/10/2013 11:04

I took cerazette for about 10 months after dd was born. I didn't find I had a problem with weight, infact I lost weight and was lighter than my pre pregnancy weight with dd after 10 months, but it gave me the most horrific mood swings. I was always angry and got worked up over tiny things very easily. I spotted for about 5 months whilst taking it. I felt pissed off almost all the time.

I wouldn't recommend it as a contraceptive tbh. I'm yet to find a mini pill that suits me. Micronor made my periods disappear.

LittleMissGerardLouiseButler · 09/10/2013 11:45

Cerazette made me put on 2 stone, I was on it for a year and while it was great having no period it was like my pmt just built up and built up and my moods were awful. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Have now just started taking Yasmin and will see how I get on.
