To not tip my hairdresser

I feel a bit guilty about not leaving a tip but I want to pay the price that is listed - is that wrong?

I always leave the salon feeling like a million dollars so am very happy to tip my hairdresser a fiver and the hair washer (and massager) £1, whatever the cost of the treatment.

The system in the US is different because there they expect a tip (and get pretty pissed of if it is not 'enough') whereas here in the UK (and other countries) we have a choice if we tip or not and staff do not specify or expect a specific amount.

YANBU. It's too open-ended and airy-fairy. Just tell me the price and I will pay it.

I tip mine. She is the only one who has managed to do something nice with my thick, fluffy sticky up hair!

I would happily pay her double Grin

I tip my hairdresser at Christmas and if I happen to have a cut and/or colour just before she has her summer holiday, I'll tip her then too in a "get yourself a drink while you're away" sort of way. I usually give her £5 each time.

Instead of tipping, why not give a gift at Christmas time? I used to prefer a gift rather than a tip each time. Seemed to say thank you in a more personal way. Also less pricey for the giver.
