I like what he cooks but not his smug face and the noise of him eating.

Sorry, I like H F-W, have done ever since his 'Cook on the Wild Side' series. Without him, I doubt I would have got interested in foraging, or growing my own stuff. I know the River Cottage thing has become kind of an over-priced big business now, but his original principles are still good, and I love his 'Meat' book. I also like his efforts to reduce discard from fishing boats, and make people aware of over-fishing of dwindling stocks. I have no knowledge of (nor much interest in) his personal life.

I'd always heard his nickname as H firmly-not-installed on account of him having opposite physiognomy to youretoastmildred's unnamed footballer on the other thread.

Still don't know what the beaker's for....

Penis Beaker is explained in the Do You Dunk your Penis thread. Its in Classics now. Don't read whilst eating.

He annoyed me with the 3 good things series. He was banging on about how you can make great meals with just 3 ingredients and then goes and adds lots of extra ingredients. Maybe he has trouble counting to 3?

"This is what I like to cook when have friends round" shut up, firstly there's no way you cook, you get it catered AND secondly you'd have no time to cook because you have to light all those effing fairy lights

@effing fairy lights that made me laugh

I hate hugh fearnly whatshisface he is a patronising smug git and no we dont all have samphire on hand imnot even sure what samphire is I was at my mums last week and she had him on and he was getting a mumsy bread making circle going and then said you could just knock uo a pizza oven up in an afternoon for the evening party , PISS OFF

There's something deeply unpleasant and unctuous about the man.

higgle · 08/10/2013 15:37

I have worked my way through most of the recipes in his veggie book and they come out really well. They are unusual too, not the standards that get re-hashed time and time again. The beans/potato/pasta/homemadepesto one is a favourite, and the root vegetable frittata(?-you know what I mean).

I used to know his mother, the family lived near us and she was a local magistrate before she got into gardening big time, she was nice.

Have never watched HFW but his books are fabulous and recipes v easy, so I won't hear a word against him.
