To think my cats are bastards

So I spent 5 hours last night prepping DSs bedroom for decorating, sugar soaping all paintwork, sanding what needed to be sanded, stripping walls and most importantly glossing the door and window sill.
Now my cats (in particular the kitten) have form for bedroom break ins so there's a little latch on the door that we fasten when we're out if the house so they can't get in.
This morning I took DS to school and when I got back the door was open, there was bloody cat hair stuck to the paint in the door frame and cat paw prints on the window sill.
So AIBU or are they bastards? Angry

I used to have a cat that would hang her bum over the edge of the litter tray and poop on the floor. She was old though.

Our girl cat (lives at my mums) has never used the cat flap, and has always just waited for someone to let her in and out of the back door. Pita but she doesn't go out loads so not too much hassle.

This summer where it was so hot, my mum had the back door open pretty much 24/7. And the cat decided now was a good time to start using the cat flap in an open door.

Is that just her being stupid or plain taking the piss?!

My parents' concrete path still bears the paw prints of our furry lodger of 30 years ago. My, how my dad laughed as he watched the cat trot merrily up the garden through the wet cement. And how gaily my mother chortled when she found out he'd clodded his concrete-clad paws across her new kitchen floor, along the new hall carpet, into the new living room and up onto the new settee. Not.

'twas a new house and he was registering his disgust. I think my father might have been heard to utter "YOU SODDING LITTLE BASTARD" quite loudly, thus introducing ourselves to our new neighbours.

Mine worked in tandem to get the bag of cat food down from the countertop and dragged it into the hall for traction to rip the bag open today.

Far too clever sometimes.
