Just checked on sainsburys website. Seriously is he suggesting that buying fresh pasta is the budget option?

Grin birdy

I was shouting t the tv the other day. £21 for a piece of lamb, then cooking it for 4 hours... he is not on the same planet!

ScarletLady02 · 07/10/2013 22:37

He is a massive bell-end...I quite like his recipes but I can't stand him "wazzing up" all the "elements of the story" all the time

IT'S A FUCKING SALAD!!! STOP WAZZING EVERYTHING!!!

Does anyone remember the Naked Chef, JO was so shy he didn't talk to the camera, he had a producer asking questions that he answered. He never looked directly at the camera, and I don't think he wazzed much either. Or had 'screaming' hot pans.

D0G, I think I love you Grin

Mynameismina · 07/10/2013 22:51

Birdy, I would rather pay a bit extra and have Nigel or Gordon.

Or nipping to the local park and picking fresh herbs. Or having sun-dried tomatoes as a store-cupboard staple and enough on the meter to have the oven running all day.

The DM had an article trying to guess which model of bread-maker David Cameron's household uses after he said he had no idea how much a loaf costs because he has one.

I think it's an actual person making the bread. Graduate on the workfare programme.

Topseyt · 07/10/2013 23:29

Jamie Oliver has no clue what "eating on a budget" actually means. Why should he? As far as I know he has never had to do it.

He should come and try to live on my budget for a month. Then he would see how airy-fairy and pie-in-the-sky so many of his ideas are.

In fact, that would make for far better telly. Take him out of his comfort zone and away from his wealth. Put him in another poorer family's home and MAKE him live according to their budget for at least a couple of weeks, with NOT A PENNY MORE. Then watch him struggle with the figures as he heads round the supermarket. Its the only way to get through to him what it is really like. Call it "Chef Swap" rather than "Wife Swap".

I used to like him too, and I live not too far from his parents' pub. At the moment I am finding him cringeworthy though.

As for making my own pasta?? Nope. Tesco Everyday Value is fine for me. That is cooking on a budget.

Sparklingbrook · 07/10/2013 23:30

Lovely to have a millionaire telling us how to be frugal.

Topseyt · 08/10/2013 00:02

Yup, that is why he needs to be removed from his comfort zone. He has no idea what it is like to be short of money.

AnaisHendricks · 08/10/2013 00:06

Or food, by the look of him.

Topseyt · 08/10/2013 00:09

But he is not short of food because he is not short of money, and has no need to even know what frugal means. PMSL.

BeaverAbroad · 08/10/2013 00:14

Wow.

We get the 15p or 20p pasta. It tastes fine. And is very cheap and gives a lot of food.

I'm sure being a millionaire has given him so much experience in budget cooking Hmm

AnaisHendricks · 08/10/2013 00:14

I wouldn't usually make a personal comment about someone's size, but he is a massive hypocrite after all his rantings about overweight children and their feckless parents.

Sparkling I am very confused seeing you on this thread. I keep thinking it's the daytime Grin

Caitlin17 · 08/10/2013 00:16

To be honest unless it is a pasta like ravioli with a fresh filling where I would perhaps only use butter or oil and possibly fresh tomatoes as a sauce I prefer dried pasta for spaghetti, lasagne, penne etc. Maybe I overcook it but that type of pasta when fresh is a bit soggy.
I can't stand him.

MrsKoala · 08/10/2013 00:18

I think he should do a programme where he is given £30 for a family of 4 and then told he has something like 7 hours cooking time for the week on the meter. No processors/gadgets. No store cupboard. 2 saucepans, 2 frying pans, 1 roasting tin, 1 sharp knife a chopping board and a grater.

I'd love to watch his face as he twats around sainsbos adding it all up in his head.

VestaCurry · 08/10/2013 00:20

Dh says he acts like he's on speed.

Darkesteyes · 08/10/2013 00:21

Yep I cant stand him either for the reasons already stated here. Still remember the shite he came out with on the webchat too.
Saw a picture in a womans weekly that showed Tesco is now stocking "Jamie Oliver wine" Hmm
