Baby given cream

Hi, My baby is almost 5 months - i am waiting till 6 months before BLW
Today someone has fed baby whipped cream and I am really worried as I thought baby shouldn't have cream till at least 12months.

I'm angry at myself for having back turned which meant this could happen but also really worried that it could cause problems such as allergies as baby digestive system is still maturing.

What are peoples thoughts.

I remember the shock with which I realised, on a family day out 18+ years ago, that FiL was feeding DS1, 6 months, an ice cream cone.Shock (DS1 did seem to be loving it, but that's not the point!)

Of course FiL was from the generation which routinely gave babies tea, and milk with alcohol to make them sleep, and something called glead water (hot coal infused water) for colic!

I don't know if I was being over-protective, and I'm afraid I became much more lax, nutritionally speaking, with DS2 and 3, but still think it's a damn cheek to feed someone else's baby anything without their approval.

My ex mil would try to feed my lactose intolerant son butter, ice cream and cheese ' because its just a fad '
I could not turn my back on her.

I had my ex-sil feed ds1 with icecream. No harm done.
Ds3's dad (dp) feed him a cockle at 8 months, despite my warnings about allergies to shellfish in the family. He came out in an allergy rash!
Dp's name was mud for a couple of days!

A COCKLE. Of all the things to choose. Honestly. I can't understand the fascination with sticking weird things in babies' mouths. I bet someone will come on here and say their 2 month old was fed blue cheese in a minute. Or peanuts. It beggars belief.

thank you for all the replies -
update baby been sick and watery diarrhea and come out in a bumpy rash on face, so if that is from cream or coincidental i'm not sure but other than slightly more irritable than normal seams ok in herself

Sounds like an allergy. Have you got allergies in the family? Does she get reflux?

Oh hope it's not an allergy! Can't believe people who think doing this is ok. My mother didn't believe DS was dairy intolerant, fed him buttery mash aged about 10 months and he barfed all over her house. She didn't do it again.

yes, cousins have eczema allergies from dairy and eggs.

for past month baby very windy, and been crying in sleep till wakes up, hates being laid flat, lots of hicups so though that may be reflux but not very often sick in general

Poor baby :( and people think you were overreacting and need to lighten up. This is precisely why people should let the parents feed their own babies and stop being so desperate to shove stuff down their throats.

Isn't formula just fortified cows milk (I know you said you breastfeed yourself and have specific intolerance concerns for your child). So surely cows milk/cream is likely to be ok - specific intolerances aside?

But op yanbu to be cross at somebody feeding your baby without your permission

Sounds like an allergic reaction I'm afraid. DS1 had his first one at 25wks to baby porridge marketed at 4m+. DS2 is now the same age and we're just dabbling into weaning. I'm keeping him strictly to fruit and veg until 26wks, not that that makes a difference to him being allergic or not. I've found a lot of the 4m+ baby food does contain milk when you think you're getting a simple fruit/veg puree.

When you've got extra reason to be cautious of food allergies, it's your right to find out under your own terms, not because some prat thinks it's funny to feed a baby with random stuff. Grrr!

Presumably the baby is breast fed and never had dairy?

A woman I knew was off on holiday with her husband, baby and mil. They stopped at a service station and when she went to the toilet her mil fed the baby some peanut butter.

The mil was very self-righteous about the whole thing until the poor baby's face started swelling up and had to be rushed to hospital.

Some people are just idiots!

I'm sure these reactions are rare and most babies are fine but it is sad when you feel you can't turn your back on your child for a second.

yes only breastfed (until given cream yesterday) nothing else has been given
