To be pissed off with my washing machine.

One of the paddles from the drum has fallen off during a wash and has left sharp bits, causing lots of my clothes to have holes in. I don't have that many clothes, so I am really pissed off and sad. Sob! Angry Sad
Also my husbands favourite Guinness hoody was in there, that has holes to. He doesn't know yet.
Would I be unreasonable to contact Hoover and ask for some sort of compensation? The washing machine is insured with Domestic and General, but they have said this only covers the parts and labour.
What should I do, not very clued up on things like this.
Thanks Smile

It only covers parts and labour - so what is the paddle classed as?

In the mean time, have a look at www.espares.co.uk/. These guys have saved me a fortune over the years.

If you can replace the part yourself, do it. Youtube will show you how.

Sparklyblue · 02/10/2013 18:17

Sorry, they will replace the paddle, but not the ruined clothes.

I wish you luck dealing with Hoover customer service. Lying disreputable company. Would never have one of their products again.

To be honest, if you are getting the parts repaired you are doing well. It's a shame that your clothes have been ruined and I doubt that they will compensate, but there's no harm in asking.

how old is your washing machine have a look at the sale of goods act shops will say that you are only covered for 12 months but under the sale of goods act you can be covered for up to six years ie with a washing machine you should have a reasonable expectation that it will last you for a number of years !

Sparklyblue · 02/10/2013 22:02

It's just over 3 years old.
