To expect this to be cleaned up?

The neighbours are renovating their house and today they hired someone to install a new boiler at the back of their house, which is a terrace joined to mine.

When they drilled into the wall to install the pipe for the steam the back of my house got covered in thick, orange brick dust. It's all over my windows, back door and white rendered wall. Unfortunately we had heavy rain this morning too so it has turned into an orange paste!

I saw the mess a couple of hours ago but have gone outside again to see that the installers van has gone and the dust is still there.

Do I just suck it up and clean it up myself? Is it up to the boiler people or my neighbours to clean it? I'm leaning towards cleaning it myself as I don't want to cause bad feeling with the neighbours, though I know the name of the company who installed it. I don't know if I'm being unreasonable because I only painted the wall 2 weeks ago and now it's stained! Maybe it's clouded my judgement.

What a pain - I suppose it's worth mentioning to the neighbours in a 'Is he coming back to clean up the mess?' kind of way so that you know at least that they have realised the extent of the filth. That way, either they might be inclined to get the installer back to clean up, or at least help themselves which might take the edge of the frustration a little.

Angry they should've realised that their work would create dust /mess in your garden/house.

Definately ask your NDN

(I had a similar problem with a damaged fence, but the British Gas supervisor stepped in and sorted it. He said that they didn't want any disagreement between neighbours)

They might have arranged to come back and sort it at a later time?

When the building behind ours was virtually reconstructed, the builders came along at the end and washed down and repaired the entire wall that had been splattered with muck and bashed into as they came up and down the access lane, too narrow for a truck so they'd done the whole thing with vans, mini-diggers etc.

Whether they'd have done this or not if I hadn't made a polite fuss when they damaged the corner I do not know!

DH, a builder, says ring the company. They should come back and deal with it. No need to even involve the neighbours if you don;t want to.

Thanks All

I'll phone the company tomorrow.
