to think this woman had a nerve

Ok, so this actually happened about 18 months ago, but something recently reminded me of it and I wanted to see what people think. To begin: I am quite an honest person in general, to the point of naivety, I have been told, so this might not seem like a big deal to some people

Basically, I was a passenger in a car with a colleague. She turned left into a road and stopped as a woman suddenly started reversing slightly ahead of her, about 5 metres up. The woman however, did not see her, and reversed straight into her.

The woman came out of the car apologising and they exchanged details. However, the woman later claimed my colleague had driven into the back of her and tried to claim on our company's insurance, leading to a bit of a stressy situation at work, with me having to verify several times that colleague hadn't caused the accident. I don't actually know what happened next as I went on maternity leave shortly after and colleague left before my return.

Do people always lie when claiming insurance? Is that just the way it is? I just can't believe someone would change their story after admitting fault. Would you, if it would save you a lot of money?

Jesus, we're about to get our first car. This thread is very helpful.

This has happened to my poor Dad twice now. The first time a woman swerved across from the inside lane of a roundabout and clipped his right hand wing. Not much damage to her car but lots to his tiny little Suzuki. Very apologetic at the time but then changed her story and claimed that he had swerved into her and caused huge amounts of damage. The insurance company wouldn't accept me as a witness as I'm family and went ahead and settled in her favour.

The second time a taxi, going too fast and wide on a bend, crashed into their car. Again the driver lied his head off about what had happened and despite the insurance company saying that they suspected he might have been at fault, settled it 50/50 and he lost his no claims.

I thought this had just happened to me.
Someone droveinto us and was very apologetic. He later claimed he was there but never hit us. We had piccies of his damaged car and independent expert saying our car had been hit but months later we're still wrangling about fault. Am amazed at the dishonesty!

It happened to me this year.

I went into the back of someone at a round about. Road was completely clear but the person in front stopped dead for no apparent reason. It was dark so neither of us could really see if there was any damage, at the time it looked like a couple of scuffed bumpers and my number plate was cracked from their towbar, I was only doing about 5mph. A few weeks later my insurance company received a claim for whiplash for the driver plus 3 passengers

Total lie, there were no passengers and if the insurance company had investigated it, it should have been obvious from the lack of damage to either cars it was a con, but they paid out as there were no other witnesses

Ive just started driving, do these bumper cams cost much? I only have a battered old corsa but I am so looking forward to getting a year's no claims and my insurance going down as it's so high as a new driver. Might look into getting a car camera I think.

I had a guy go into the back of my instructor's car whilst I was driving (not my fault and no issues with repairs or insurance), however my instructor said it is very common for people to deliberately slow down or slam on and then claim for whiplash, or have car written off to get a new one. I can't comprehend it myself as I'm an honest person but some people just have no morals!
