Yes sounds perfect

Feminine · 02/10/2013 12:35

Well obviously? why are you wondering? :)

Makqueen2 · 02/10/2013 12:36

Gosh yes, I'd say so. When ds was 17 months he barley ate a thing.

somersethouse · 02/10/2013 12:38

stealth boast. Of course it's ok.
What the hell do you normally feed him, filet mignon?

fieldfare · 02/10/2013 12:44

Of course that's fine!

TeamSouthfields · 02/10/2013 12:44

I was generally wondering, as feel he should be having two proper meals a day.. This is an honest post.. is just one proper meal ok... Thank you

OP posts:
Feminine · 02/10/2013 12:48

For a little one they are both "proper meals" :)
Don't fret!

ginslinger · 02/10/2013 12:50

It is a proper meal. Protein veg and carbs - it's great

CoffeeTea103 · 02/10/2013 12:53

Sounds great! Glad your little one is eating well.

TeamSouthfields · 02/10/2013 12:53

He was very ill in May with mengitis, swelling / fluid on the brain and didn't eat much for a long time... His only just started to eat properly again, hence my question... Thank you

Stealth boast I think.

Of course it's fine.

Why would you think it was in any way inadequate?

Dahlen · 02/10/2013 12:55

I'm being picky but it sounds like an enormous amount of food for a 17-month old! All great in composition though. Wink

Yesterday mine (age 5) got home from school and had curried courgette soup and 7 (!!!) slices of French bread to dip in it. This was his snack. Then he had shrimp tagliatelle with a massive salad for dinner. then he has stilton and crackers. Then he ate 3 kiwis. And a magnum. And had a huge mug of hot milk before bed. He does not have worms, I check all them time, astonished at how much he eats. And before you think I'm smug for the diet...

This morning, rather than something normal, he ate a Belgian bun with cream for his breakfast, and then had hula hoops and a kitkat in the car to school Grin

I don't care what he eats as he's got a stonking appetite, and eats everything, good and bad. If he wants a massive plate of steamed fish and veg, as he often does...good for him. If he wants a massive plate of cake, as he often does...good for him. He generally steers away from crap, as he likes big flavours, and you don't get that in nuggets etc. He loves stuffed crust pizza though.

I've never made a big deal of food. I don't want him to think of anything as a "treat" to be indulged in. And so he learns to enjoy a broad spectrum of food. Keep going OP...just put really varied stuff in front of him, and make no big deal if he eats it, so he learns to really enjoy his food and the fantastic flavours. I really love to see DS tuck into something bursting with flavour, screw his face up with pleasure and say "MMMM! This is delish!!!!" Enjoying food is one of life's simple pleasures. Don't be alarmed at the volume your DS gets through. Mine was out eating me by 3yrs old. He's not remotely fat either.

TheRobberBride · 02/10/2013 12:57

Sorry just read your update.

It's fine OP.

Honestly. If it's something that's of ongoing concern to you, have you considered asking your HV for advice?

AIBU isn't really the place for questions like yours. You'd get better responses in Health.

JaneFonda · 02/10/2013 12:59

Hmm at the posters who think this is a stealth boast - what an odd thing to think somebody would boast about.

OP, what he's eating sounds great, and it's normal to worry about it, especially if he has been ill before. Don't worry if he doesn't eat all of it - you're feeding him well, and he'll eat when he's hungry.

Dahlen · 02/10/2013 12:59

Bloody hell sugar - your food bill must be enormous! Shock

I'm now slightly worried I have been underfeeding my DC - though rather relieved as well in terms of the cost. Grin

ICameOnTheJitney · 02/10/2013 13:02

I can't see why you think he's having just one "proper meal" Confused which isn't "proper"? Chicken and veg or Spaghetti Bolognaise?

JulietBravoJuliet · 02/10/2013 13:23

Sounds fine to me. Yesterday my 7yo ate:

No breakfast (by choice)
3 bites of a cheese and ham toastie
Apple
Macaroni cheese, carrots, chicken (about 1/4 of the portion I gave him)

I despair sometimes!

somersethouse · 02/10/2013 13:28

She didn't say he had been ill before. Just listed a fabulous menu.

That is why people thought it was a stealth boast.
TBH if he has been ill of not (very sorry about that) makes no difference, the food is completely fine, MORE than fine.

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 02/10/2013 13:39

Just because it's in AIBU it isn't actually compulsory to be narky you know?!

It is, first and foremost, a parenting site for parents to get help. It would pay people to remember that sometimes.

TS both are 'proper meals' and he is eating a good variety of things. You may find in time he stops liking some of the stuff he eats now and has a much more limited diet, for a while, that's normal too!

wheredidiputit · 02/10/2013 13:45

Sounds good to me. Although not so DS would have thrown the veg at me. He might have eaten the cucumber depending as to whether it was a cucumber day or not.

Sugar, I have 3 dc who eat like that. In fact the middle one who is the smallest eats the most. DH is always shocked when he on holiday how much the dc eat on a day to day basis. Me I just keep feeding them as healthy as possible.

TroublesomeEx · 02/10/2013 14:01

Porridge is a proper breakfast

Chicken and salad is a proper lunch

Spag bol and veg is a proper dinner.

Which of these aren't proper?!

Feminine · 02/10/2013 14:12

good idea to look behind a post sometimes also. Wink

SPBisResisting · 02/10/2013 20:38

In fairness I thought it was odd. But there are people who are odd about food. This meal or that meal must be hot or a "proper dinner". Mil was shocked that the dc sometimes have yoghurt for breakfast and doesnt class chilli, rice, bread potatoes and salad as a meal.
