AIBu to demand a new bed?

New bed delivered yesterday.

A divan in two halves

When put together one half is higher (by about 3mm not much but noticable) than the other half so it does not make a flat base

Shop think it's fine and 'that's how beds are these days'

I think they should give us a replacement , two bits that are level.

Who is being unreasonable?

If it's me I'll suck it up but if it's not I'll fight for a new bed

Are the castors in properly on the higher part ? We recently put together a divan and it was only when the two parts were joined and with a little bit of weight on that they went in fully and it levelled.

Brigantia · 02/10/2013 09:56

the castors are in properly

Is this a common problem then?

So you have a two halves that don't match, of course the shop should supply a bed that actually goes together.

If they try to fob you off phone trading standards.

They are seriously deluded if they think this is acceptable.

I would ask for your money back, and find a better company to buy from, the quality control in where ever this bed was made is terrible.

Chippednailvarnish · 02/10/2013 11:28

Your mattress will wear badly if the bed isn't flat. Ask for a replacement.

allmycats · 02/10/2013 11:31

YADNBU
The shop are talking bollocks and should replace it with a bed with 2 matching sides or refund you.

comingalongnicely · 02/10/2013 11:47

Aren't you going to put 12" of mattress over the top of it? I wouldn't think it'd make a blind bit of difference when that's on.

Brigantia · 02/10/2013 16:13

well the man has just been here to examine it and apparently

'you have the wrong kind of floors for a divan bed'

The wrong kind of floors? It's a floor in a bedroom with carpet on it?

I think you should just change your floors to the right kind Hmm!! There is obviously nothing wrong with the bed! Wink

MerryMarigold · 02/10/2013 16:22

I was actually going to say that if the floors are a bit uneven, this would happen (certainly would in our house!). I think it's highly likely if you have a new bed then it will be the same problem.

mum11970 · 02/10/2013 16:25

Is your floor level? My bedroom floors slopes slightly and is only noticeable by the fact my wardrobe doors don't sit 100% level.

DelGirl · 02/10/2013 16:27

Have you put the mattress on yet? You may not even notice once it's on.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/10/2013 16:29

Put a spirit level on the floor and see if it's out.

Bet it's your floor and not the bed , that's what we have (same bed than in our old house which was level)

BrokenSunglasses · 02/10/2013 16:31

You should measure the two halves and if they aren't the same, then you should be entitled to a new bed. I agree you should also put a long spirit level on the floor to check its not that, because if it is, there's nothing the shop can do.

Brigantia · 02/10/2013 17:33

We have measured and there is a difference.

It remains when you turn the bed 180 degrees. High bit is still high whichever way round the bed is placed

MerryMarigold · 02/10/2013 20:45

In that case, you can prove it is not the floors. New bed.
