WWYD DD being bullied as her dad is gay

DD returned home earlier today and was in a bit of a mood. Eventually she tells me that another student asked her loudly to confirm that her dad is gay. Everyone else heard and the far majority laughed at her and generally took the piss.

DD doesn't want everyone knowing and then taking the piss. I told her that I couldn't prevent everyone finding out and again told her that it's nothing to be ashamed of.

I have emailed the school as it was gone five when I found out, tomorrow they are on strike.

What really pisses me off is that some of her so called friends laughed as well. I don't know whether to speak directly to the mothers or let the school deal with it?

The school contacted me earlier and they have had a very stern talk with the two ringleaders they have made it clear that if they do it again then they will be excluded.

It is good that the school are reacting robustly to this but what are they going to do about the educational side of homophobia in the school? How about the young gay boys and girls at the school?

Good question I never asked. There is a parents evening very soon I will bring it up then unless something else happens. The school website doesn't state their policy on this.

I laughed a lot this morning when I read a tweet from Morgan Freeman regarding homophobia he said that homophobia isn't a phobia, you're not scared you're an asshole. I couldn't agree more.

So glad to hear the school are taking it seriously.

one of my dd friends from primary who was a leader rather than a follower laughed

Sorry to hear this. As they are still so young, is it possible it was nervous laughter rather than actually agreeing or finding it funny?

a gay deputy headteacher told me at his school they had an assembly about it he was open and honest about his sexuality and he said it encouraged kids who may feel they might be gay to be open about it i was very impressed as I could have never of imagined that happening when I was at school nearly twenty five years ago my school was catholic however !

Tavv yes I think it probably was nervous laughter. Dd said that she had a great day at school. Hopefully this is the last of this but no promises. Some of her friends have asked her some questions and have been very supportive.
