To think that kids (and parents) should go on strike too?

I'm not in the UK at the moment, but I am a teacher, and if I were in the country I'd be striking.

So many parents on another thread, seem to be in support of the teachers' strike as this time they are seeking to safeguard the profession, rather than just pay. Our children deserve a solid education, delivered by well trained and properly supported professionals. Gove is, IMO, not looking to better education, but to make a name for himself.

So, with that in mind, WIBU to suggest that anyone who can should get out there with kids and placards in tow to show their support?

Excellent idea. Gets my vote.

And presumably there will be lots of parents with time on their hands and able to go. If you do support the teachers, I'm sure they would really appreciate your company.

And teachers who are striking - please try and attend a rally.

Oh yes! I don't think DD's teachers are striking but will check for the later one, just in case.
My mum calls it a 'culture of fear' that is being developed in education - she used to be a teacher but now works for an education authority. She says she's got several very good heads who have issues with their schools (children from different cultures who don't speak English and therefore don't achieve targets set, taking over 'failed schools' and need time to change things etc) who are being hounded to turn them into academies when they don't want to, and have no support from the parents to do so.
All so Gove can brag about the number of academies he's created.

It's not about the education the kids are getting at all - it's about Gove wanting to be Prime Minister.

I'm having to go to work (not a teacher),but I will pass on my support to the teachers,as I did last time.

My kids schools are closed, will they be at the school still? I am happy to support the strike but don't know if there is a march/prorest rally etc locally? How would I find out?

Gove and the new Ofsted criteria would have your children turn into little clones out of something from the 'Demon Headmaster' series. Even in Y1 he wants them sitting still, not even daring to fiddle, to turn their heads and look at a sound outside the window, or to adjust how they are sitting. Automated little robots who maximise their learning chances at every opportunity - not children with hopes, dreams, opinions and their own characters. Then there's the new curriculum. Your child can fail or pass. If they do well, they can do more of the same, not learn the next step.

count me in

AllTwerkNoPlay · 30/09/2013 19:43

Yep! I would happily join in. I support the teachers and I think what the teachers disagree with are damaging the education of my children, and would love to show how much I agree with the strikers.

There should be a rally in lots of city centres
