To think weightwatchers meetings are toe-curlingly bad?

Went to my first ww meeting on Friday. I was given a piece of string "to keep things in balance" and then the leader rang a bell for people who had reached their target.
I came away feeling patronised and decidedly de-motivated!
Plus the leader was nasal and giggly. Not her fault I know but I can't face going back.
Are they all this bad? Was really like something out of Little Britain.

momsnatter if you take a look at the linked thread (from pages 10 to 15 to see my posts so you wont have to look at the whole thread) you will see the weight loss story that never gets told or published.

Momsnatter · 29/09/2013 23:49

I'll have a look. Looked through the first part and couldn't find you!

I called out Slimming World magazine this month for publishing an article saying that women could help their big boobs by losing weight. I pointed out that i lost ten stone and ONE cup size. I object to them talking about women like we are one big homogenous mass.
And the article said how liberating and sexy running down the street without having to wear a boulder holder bra is. Well i was still in "boulder holders" as they so charmingly put it after losing 10 stone. Sometimes genetics plays a part too, No mention of that in the article I found the article mysogynistic and anti feminist.

Darkesteyes · 29/09/2013 23:54

Sorry Moms Its a long thread. I should have made it clearer where i came in on it.

Lovecat · 29/09/2013 23:55

I stopped going to SW meetings even though I was losing weight as it was so relentlessly awful. A load of people sitting obsessing about food and syns and here's the latest piece of synthetic fat-free crap you can eat til you're bursting because it's 'free', who all seemed to be gaining and losing the same 2lb week on week. Lots of sniggering about how 'naughty' they'd been going off-plan and no real information about nutrition. Interestingly, the leader was off sick one week and there was a lot of muttering & eye-rolling amongst the regulars about her replacement - who turned out to be extremely helpful and informative and not at all 'never mind, we're all in this together, it doesn't matter that you've put on weight again'... unfortunately she ran groups that I couldn't get to, or I'd have switched to her!

Momsnatter · 30/09/2013 00:00

Yup. I needed the 'boulder holders even when i was 8 1/2 stone. Sorry to hear you've had such a hard time of it darkest.
Doubt i'll have the motivation to lose weight rapidly.

Im back at SW now and lost 3 ppounds in first week (6 and a half if you include what i lost by myself last month.) Im power walking for an hour every day but being a 38K bust size its all i can do so i will never get the Body Magic bronze because i cant do High Impact excsercise without a sports bra.

MrsWembley · 30/09/2013 00:03

You can still do Body Magic without he high impact stuff. I've done it with walking, swimming and Wii Fit!

Darkesteyes · 30/09/2013 00:03

Thanks Moms im doing Extra Easy Ive tried it before but only lost the first week and just went up and down up and down after that. The only diff this time is im excsersising.
I lost the ten stone on Green but SW have changed their plan since then plus im a decade older.

ToysRLuv · 30/09/2013 00:05

I wish there was some non-patronising RL group thing for people who already have all the nutritional info, but lack motivation and need group support.. I see a gap in the market - kerching!!!!

MrsWembley · 30/09/2013 00:05

And you can still do Green and Original days! I often do Green to have a change and to have an extra Healthy B.

Darkesteyes · 30/09/2013 00:07

I would still have the problem of finding a swimming costume with cups to support a 38K.
Jumping up and down is OUT. Ive tried all the sites bravissimo curvy kate etc Ample Bosom.com had one but the cheapest price there for my size was £80
Im going to try lessbounce.com They are my last hope but it will still have to wait This SW plan has shot my grocery bill up.

ToysRLuv · 30/09/2013 00:08

My boobs used to always be the first ones to go, but not after DS, so I guess there is something hormonal going on, as well..

Darkesteyes · 30/09/2013 00:11

First it comes off of with me is hips and tummy.

MrsWembley · 30/09/2013 00:14

The lovely thing about Wii Fit is you only jump up and down if you want to. I do lots of the yoga stuff along with the muscle activities. Occasionally I might do the running/jumping etc stuff, but not often...Wink

Maggietess · 30/09/2013 00:20

lovecat Yy I think this is my real issue with them - food becomes an obsession. It's not with me now, although I know I eat too much. I should cut back. But I find ww /sw terrifying because they make you obsessive about food and I just dint think that's any better.

For example I can't believe for a second that spraying 10 sprays of sin free spray on my frying pan to make an omelette is actually in the real world any better than adding a tiny bit of marg. And I'm terrified for myself if that is what I need to obsess about in order to make my life "better"...

Much of me guffaws with incredulity at the obsessional nature of all of these kind of diets... Whilst being sad that I don't seem to be able to just kickstart "normal" eating myself without latching on to a plan...

Darkesteyes · 30/09/2013 00:21

Ooh i didnt know that Cant afford it at the min but will bear it in mind. On my power walk round my housing estate i always go round twice Takes me an hour every day.
Out of curiosity DH went round in the car with the tripometer on He says im doing just over three miles a day .

Darkesteyes · 30/09/2013 00:23

Maggie once its off this time i intend to continue with the excsersise as part of a complete change in lifestyle

sassytheFIRST · 30/09/2013 00:32

Not even going there re slimming clubs...

But darkest - as a fellow titter, I recommend wearing a v high Lycra crop top over a normal underwired bra for exercise. I am not overweight - at 5ft7 and 11st4 I am at top of ok bmi, but my tits are 32jj...Hmm I can and do run tho, strapped up as described.

Darkesteyes · 30/09/2013 00:36

Thanks sassy You are about the weight i got down to. (well my lowest was 10 stone 12) but at 11 and a half stone ppl thought i was 9 and a half stone) I had come down from 21 stone just over 10 years ago.
Ive found the excersise has made me feel a bit happier though.

Darkesteyes · 30/09/2013 00:37

I was a 34F at 11 and a half stone down from a 46G

sassytheFIRST · 30/09/2013 00:41

I'd love to be an f cup! Only via surgery for me I think...

The endorphins involved in exercise help people make better food choices I think. I need to get control of my eating - not to get thinner, particularly, tho everyone always wants to drop a stone ime! But I think I am wheat intolerant and it would do me good not to dive into a slice of bread and butter and/or slab of cake at 4pm most days.

Darkesteyes · 30/09/2013 00:44

YY sass Im not struggling to ditch the obvious like choc cake crisps etc.
But i like my bread/toast and i miss having more of it.

ToysRLuv · 30/09/2013 00:47

I couldn't live without carbs..

Darkesteyes · 30/09/2013 00:49

No excersise for me tomorrow Got to wait in AGAIN for my HAs gas safety engineer to do the annual check No excserise last Monday either when he didnt turn up.
