No, YANBU. I have been to many birthday parties where wine has been offered. They're the best ones!

Most people will probably be driving though so won't partake in my experience.

Musicaltheatremum · 28/09/2013 20:09

I had cava at my daughters second birthday. (She's 20 now)

Lorialet · 28/09/2013 20:17

YANBU at all ~ I'm sure it will go down very well with most of them :)

edwinbear · 28/09/2013 20:46

YADNBU. I served wine, beer and Pimms at ds's 4th party. Everyone had a brilliant time.

Bowlersarm · 28/09/2013 20:47

YANBU.

Maybe if it's 9.00 am you might not get many takers though.

Nope. YANBU you are being a great host

Notfootball · 28/09/2013 21:17

Go for it! We had wine and beer at DD's 4th in the summer and it was lovely, best party we've ever had! Gosh, I sound like a lush.

sue52 · 28/09/2013 21:23

No. I always plied the adults with alcohol at my children's parties.

Donkeyok · 28/09/2013 21:32

Wine Wine Wine all the way Smile

ThisIsBULLSHIT · 28/09/2013 21:35

YANBU! What time is the party?

Iaintdunnuffink · 28/09/2013 21:35

Yabu :)

Could offer Bucks Fizz, if people want a lower alcohol content.

PeppermintCream · 28/09/2013 22:41

Thanks for the reassurance. The party is at 3pm. All of the parties have been at soft play etc so I haven't had chance to suss people out. Thank you wise women.

YANBU but could also offer an alternative alcoholic drink for those who don't favour the fizz

D0oinMeCleanin · 28/09/2013 22:46

I served alcohol at the dd's first Halloween party. It ended up on carrying on until 3am and I inherited 5 extra children for the night/next day and a whopping hangover. Just a warning Grin

It's become a tradition since then, it takes days to clean up after it. Letting 10 children run riot with Haribo and loo roll while yourself and their parents are slightly tispy on spiked Witches Brew is not to be advised.

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 28/09/2013 22:47

Just ask if they would like tea, coffee, cava or juice.

i bet 9/10 they will have cava

Iaintdunnuffink · 28/09/2013 22:51

Oh sorry. I was meant to say yaNbu! But also suggesting some orange juice as an afternoon mixer. Doh!

ShakeAndVac · 28/09/2013 22:52

YANBU at all, I'm sure aprents would love a glass of cava! Smile
As long as you're serving plenty of non alcoholic drinks as well, and offer tea, coffee, and juice.

ShakeAndVac · 28/09/2013 22:52

aprents? Parents!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/09/2013 22:57

So long as there are soft alternatives, I virtually never drink alcohol during the day as it would wipe me out for the rest of it. I think it depends a bit whether its the sort of party where parents are just staying because their DCs are too young to leave (I've never been offered alcohol at those) or the sort where it is a family/friends party to mark the occasion of the birthday IYSWIM where it would be more normal.

Icelollycraving · 28/09/2013 22:57

You do realise this is the mn version of a teenager posting she's having a party on Facebook? You will now be overrun with new friends.

PeppermintCream · 29/09/2013 17:50

Well I offered cava- but everybody wanted tea and coffee ?? oh well I'll just have to invite some friends over another time, they'll help me drink it.

Ha Ha love it cheersWine

GangstersLoveToDance · 30/09/2013 23:46

I've always had various alcohol options at the dc's birthdays. Until school age, there were mainly just adults there. I wouldn't have felt right without being able to at least offer a glass of wine/larger.
