to someone I currently work with???!!!

worse still they haven't even acknowledged my application!!

ive never complained before and the job is a good job that I still want. im pretty angry although the feedback to my colleague was good and thankfully shes not one to go telling on me. not that they knew that!!

When I was applying for jobs, one agency sent my CV to a senior partner at a very prestigious firm. Great, thanks ... only he was already my boss and they knew that. Angry

Fortunately he used to get me to go through his mail and remove most of it anything that didn't need his personal attention.

I'm not clear from your OP who said what to whom but I can see why you're annoyed.

Highly unprofessional and I would think quite unethical too. I think you would do well to complain. Someone with a less understanding boss/colleague could find themselves in a horrible situation because of something like that.

I've just applied for a job at a college too, hope they don't do the same to me!

Do you know the context? Was is someone who knows your colleague personally or did it come up in reference to the post? It's not great, but there are circumstances where I could see it being more reasonable than others.

Turns out the recruitment person at the college is friends with my colleague. They were talking on the phone and my friend mentions my name in a different context. College lady says oh yes she's applied to us for a job....

That's slightly different. Hopefully your current colleague gave you a good "reference" and perhaps even a leg-up.

If you'd vaguely enquired about vacancies then it would have been unprofessional of their HR person to approach your current employers. But in the circumstances I can see that it was all off the record and non-compromising.

Good luck with the job hunt Thanks
