yanbu.

Mine are 6 and 5 and haven't seen any of them. I did consider watching Jurassic Park but realised it was too scary after the first 45mins.

ringaringarosy · 28/09/2013 19:32

we just watched Krull!

ringaringarosy · 28/09/2013 19:33

I prefer the 80s fantasy films as they are more for the whole family instead of the modern ones these days which are purely for kids, well i say that,i do know adults who enjoy the pixar style ones but i find that odd.

BitchTeeRiskit · 28/09/2013 19:38

Jurassic Park is a PG though isn't it?

DS was dinosaur mad when he was younger, he loved it!

I cannot comment on Blues Brothers, never seen it.

Indiana Jones is a no no though. Scary face melting.

Perpelxedandoverwhelmed · 28/09/2013 20:37

Can't speak for the Blues Brothers, but the first two are fine in my opinion. All three of my children have seen these films from age 3 onwards and have enjoyed them. We fast forwarded the ending of Indiana Jones though so as to miss the melting baddy and the scary ghost faces, but that was the only part that we thought unsuitable for them. I'm quite liberal minded when it comes to films though, as long as they're not violent or sexual or use a torrent of swear words.

OohMrDarcy · 28/09/2013 20:42

hmmm logic tells me none of those are suitable for a 3 year old... however!

I have a nearly 4 year old and if he knew that jurassic park existed he would watch it day in and day out (obsessed with Dinosaurs) He would probably also quite like Indianna Jones (not that I would let him watch it yet)

jellyfl00d · 28/09/2013 20:45

My 3yr old would freak out, his imagination is wild and gets scared at even some Disney movies when his mind runs away with it! I would definitely not let him watch the movies you mentioned!

Madmartigan · 28/09/2013 20:51

My four year old is scared of the baddy in Tommy Zoom; as soon as the music starts he runs. I've had to edu cate DH as well. It's not good for the littlies to see the grown up stuff, confusing for them at.the very least.

LimitedEditionLady · 28/09/2013 23:19

Yanbu my son would cry his eyes out,he cried at finding nemo

trixymalixy · 28/09/2013 23:25

No I wouldnt show them to a 3 year old.

I love 80s fantasy films, I'm in the huff though as I went to buy the Goonies for my 6 year old for £3 only to see that it's a 12. I can't remember anything in it that would make it a 12?

ringaringarosy · 29/09/2013 09:27

mine have seen the goonies they love it!

trixymalixy · 30/09/2013 08:30

How old are your kids? Why do you think it has been given a 12 rating? I think my DS would love it as he's really into pirates.

Fakebook · 30/09/2013 08:39

Never watched Blues Brothers, but dd loved Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom at age 3 (and still does) but found Jurassic Park boring at the same age. She also loved the last few parts of Harry Potter.

WeeHelena · 30/09/2013 09:18

Not appropriate for toddlers no.
They may not have big attention spans unless cbeebies is on but if they happen to watch even a short scene of violence or sexual, basically adult content it can upset or effect them In some way.

Usually if I'm watching my programs I mute the t.v or fast forward through the bits I know aren't appropriate for my 3yr old.

I remember watching chuckies bride when I was between 7-9yr old,I was scared and sex scenes too made me uncomfortable never realised WWF was so sexual til recently and am HmmShock at my parents for having it on t.v as a kid.

I forgot what the movie is called but it was set in the days of civil war (guerellas) or something but it was a adult fairy tale of the princess of the underworld reincarnated as a girl having to do 3 trials in order to return to the underworld and her step father was an evil general fighting the rebels.
Anyway in it was a faun and as soon as he popped up it visibly scared my 3yr old she ran to me for a cuddle and she has never done it before.

Sorry long post.

ScarletLady02 · 30/09/2013 09:34

I watched the Blues Brothers when I was young...to be honest I forgot about the swearing in it...awesome film (just don't watch the sequel!!)

Funnily enough I was watching Jurassic Park (2nd one) yesterday as I was lounging and my nearly 3 year old was fine until the scene with the T-Rex running through the city smashing everything up so I turned it off. I was sitting down with her watching it though, she was playing and ignoring it mostly.

I loved Indiana Jones a child as well. Kid's films were much scarier when I was younger. Legend, Willow, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal etc. I loved all those, I doubt most people would allow little kids to watch them these days. Maybe it's why I'm such a horror fan now.

But back to the topic, if you're not comfortable with them watching it then that's your right. I can understand why, but they're not the worst examples I've heard of. I went round someone's house once and they were letting their 4 and 7 year old watch Freddy Vs Jason Confused

DeWe · 30/09/2013 10:08

It depend on the child.

I am certain that ds would have been fine with Jurassic park at that age. (haven't seen the other two)
I am absolutely certain that dd2 (nearly 10yo) would still not be okay with it.

I am the adult that was hiding under her seat in the cinema during Chicken run though Blush
