To not buy anything other than Lego for DS

Hello. My DS (5) wants Lego Chima for Christmas, and that's all he can think of. He only ever plays with Lego. We will obviously get him a few bits and bobs from Father Christmas like a book, a game, some practical stuff, but would it be unreasonable for all his other presents (from the family as well) to be Lego. If we buy anything else, it just won't get played with. Is it going to be incredibly dull to just have 6 sets of Lego to play with?

Just gone to check out Tesco following a previous posters comment about Lego Batman bedding - the clock I linked to is cheaper there...

ClaimedByMe · 26/09/2013 11:50

My ds is 8 and a half and no doubt will only want more lego for xmas, he bloody loves the stuff and has loads of it already but it is all he really plays with.

LaundryFairy · 26/09/2013 11:51

YANBU. Lego is all my DS has wanted for birthdays and Christmas since he was 4.

DS is now 10.

There is a LOT of LEGO in our house! Grin

PeppermintPasty · 26/09/2013 12:06

Can I just reassure you (or not). My ds will be 7 in Feb and is a massive Lego obsessive. It started at about 4 yo and I don't think it's anywhere near to reaching its peak yet Shock.

It's a wonderful obsession, and I share it a bit a lot, but the downside is we are swamped with all kinds of Lego, absolutely everywhere. I've got him mainly Lego for Christmas.

Plus, I am addicted to watching Lego bits and bobs on ebay. My watching page is permanently open on my pc at work Blush.

thebear1 · 26/09/2013 12:08

I will be doing this for my 6year old. Lego, some books and a dvd will be his presents.

YellowDinosaur · 26/09/2013 12:21

Lots of Lego chima on the book people website too....

shoofly · 26/09/2013 12:38

Ds1 has already started asking for the Lego Advent calendar. YANBU to only buy Lego if that's what he wants. We have star wars lego t shirts from Next and various other merchandise. The Book People are also great for Lego books and Lego Brickmaster books.

Binkyridesagain · 26/09/2013 12:43

There are free lego construction plans on the internet, some sites are replacement instructions for the kits and other sites for building other general stuff, like houses.

farewellfigure · 26/09/2013 12:44

I'm feeling reassured. I guess there's no point in buying him something that will just sit around and not be played with. Now, I just need to work on the in-laws! To be fair for his birthday they bought him a lego head storage box, so maybe they're warming to the theme! It's just the bricks themselves they have an aversion to!

Not at all, 90% of the presents that my DS was given over the years (including Lego Grin) were of no interest to him and went straight to the charity shop.

Can't you suggest the ILs put some money in his savings account or treat him to a day out (Leogland Grin) or similar? Or you could give him less volume of Lego and ask them to buy a specific set he is interested in.

SadBadMadFat · 26/09/2013 17:32

there are lego star wars dvds which are brilliant too.

Dc (and I) are lifelong lego fans and play with it nearly every day!

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 26/09/2013 17:39

I still haven't grown out of Lego! Grin

MimsyBorogroves · 26/09/2013 17:44

YANBU.

My DS is pretty much the same (although he does love drawing and lightsabers Wink) and lego is what he would like, and what would be used.

Of course, some people are saying they won't buy him lego because they don't see the point when he has so much already. Their choice, but we know what he likes!

mrstigs · 26/09/2013 17:52

I'd do it and be chuffed that he is so easy to buy for. Smile None of my three have anything specific that they like. Present buying is a pita in this house.

ghostonthecanvas · 26/09/2013 17:55

He loves lego. Get him lego. I am a 47 year old female and I love lego. No one ever takes my requests for lego presents seriously. Ever.

Bakingtins · 26/09/2013 18:25

My DH got the Lego campervan for Christmas last year, you never outgrow Lego.

We have the "Shave a sheep" Lego game (build the characters then play) which is one of the few kids games I can play without wishing to poke my eyes out with a stick after 5 minutes.
Tickets to Legoland is a great idea if grandparents don't want to buy a set.

armani · 26/09/2013 21:52

my ds will be 5 in december and he is literally obsessed with lego! he will be getting lego city sets for his birthday and lego batman for christmas. I dread to think how much it has all cost me but I cant wait to see his face!
at the moment he just has a box of random bricks and loads of minifigs, he sits watching videos on youtube of models people have built etc.

NotAsTired · 26/09/2013 22:42

Another lego fan here. DS is 5 and he only ever plays with lego. Absolutely not interested in anything else. He is really good at the construction and making up stories and building his own versions of his lego city stuff, but not great at finding the pieces. Guess who is the Finder of the Bricks? Hmm.

Unfortunately, though, he is not interested in the merchandise.

mawbroon · 26/09/2013 22:49

YANBU DS1 hardly plays with anything else, and has been like this since he got his first set aged 4.

He's got absolutely tons of the stuff now and is really creative with it. He even got printed in Cool Creations in the Lego mag Grin

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 26/09/2013 23:07

'Enough' Lego = child's own bodyweight therefore more needs to be bought each birthday and Christmas for aaages yet.

Ragwort · 27/09/2013 17:19

Am I the only mother in the world whose child was just not interested in Lego? Grin

mrspremise · 27/09/2013 17:36

Cover the top of a basic table (IKEA 'Lack' is good) in LEGO baseboards... Hey Presto! Lego building table! [You could possibly also screw small storage pots (like for tool sheds) around the edges to store bricks?] LEGO is ace, we all play with it!!

Orangeanddemons · 27/09/2013 17:40

My ds age 19 still loves Lego. He always wants to go in the Lego shop. Nothing comes close to Lego, all the imitations are crap. Dd is getting tonnes of Lego for Christmas...

Pos1 · 27/09/2013 17:47

Argos are doing 3 for 2 on all toys at the moment, including Lego sets
