I'm talking about the insulated zip up character kind?

We didn't have these last year and they get very mucky since school insist on children bringing home any rubbish and uneaten food

Do I use a cleaning spray?
Wash in the sink?
Washing machine?

Can they go on the radiator?

I'm guessing they would melt in the dryer

direct the kids to the sink with lunchbox in hand!

Bunnygotwhacked · 25/09/2013 13:38

I have looked in vain for many years to find the standard plastic pack ups with a handle we used to have as children. So we do use the clip locked tupperware inside lunch bag and all wrappers crusts etc have to be put back inside the box and done up. The bags i give a quick wipe over each time i make one up and then they get put in washing machine at the weekend

CissyMeldrum · 25/09/2013 13:43

I line mine with kitchen roll.

flashheartscanoe · 25/09/2013 13:43

THROW THEM AWAY

Get 2 per child of lock sided tupperware that goes in the dishwasher. Took me years to work this out.

LaRegina · 25/09/2013 13:48

All I do is put the food in a plastic bag then put the bag in the lunch box. The DC just have to be nagged into putting their leftovers back in the plastic bag afterwards....

gordyslovesheep · 25/09/2013 13:54

Turn them inside out, scrub with a stunner and soapy water. Put on draining board to dry

gordyslovesheep · 25/09/2013 13:54

Scrubber not whatever my phone said

StanleyLambchop · 25/09/2013 14:04

icecreamforcrow I am having the exact same problem with the plastic lunchboxes, the dripping is driving me potty! Let me know if you find a solution!

SubliminalMassaging · 25/09/2013 14:07

I use anit-bac wipes while I can get away with it and when they get too bad I put them in the washing machine. They don't last as long, but at least they are clean. Getting congealed yoghurt out of those inside seams is a bugger.

Oldraver · 25/09/2013 19:53

I turn it inside out and clean with the dishwash sponge, hang on the door handle to dry. Once a week anti- bac it

EastwickWitch · 25/09/2013 19:55

Lock & lock ones, go in the dishwasher daily. and a lovely shade of orange due to pasta sauce

PrimalLass · 25/09/2013 19:57

I put them in the top rack of the dishwasher.

LoveSewingBee · 25/09/2013 20:02

washing machine

and water bottle once a week with Milton if weather is warm and otherwise once every month or so with Milton.

Groovee · 25/09/2013 20:06

I put them on the sports show cycle on my machine which is 30 minutes and dry on the horse next to the radiator.

phantomnamechanger · 25/09/2013 20:07

all those who use the clip/lock plastic boxes - have you seen the black gunk that builds up under the blue rubber seals, it's vile. I now take the blue seal out and give them a thorough bleach every now and then.

heather1 · 25/09/2013 20:10

I wipe them with a cloth. If really mucky turn them inside out and wash them then leave to dry overnight on dish drainer. When packing them up in the morning I line them with a sheet of kitchen towel which soaks up, a bit, the worst of the gunk.

MistyB · 25/09/2013 20:22

We have changed to these plastic lunch boxes with carrying handle and they have changed our lives!! They are into their third year of use and still going strong.

Fakebook · 25/09/2013 20:25

Wash in the machine once a fortnight, spray and wipe with something like dettol or any other surface cleaner every evening and allow to air to get any smells out. No yoghurts in lunch.

These are brilliant, and go through the dishwasher, they keep food very hot or very cold, about half the children at the primary school have them, and at the secondary school you see lots with them.
