To take an empty buggy to Lidl?

Hopemore · 24/09/2013 22:33

Every time I go to Lidl I get a taxi back home and pay £10.
Sometimes I pop into Asda beforehand if I need to get something from there such as school uniform, etc..
Anyway, last time I had to wait nearly 1 hour for the taxi, and now I don't want to repeat the experience again. When I go to Sainsbury's, I wait for around 45 minutes too and from Asda the taxi is £15.

I am thinking of taking my old buggy to the supermarket tomorrow, so I can get on the bus and come back home with everything I need and still save the taxi money.

Would this be absolutely ludicrous?
I used to have a shopping stroller but can't fit much in there and is more difficult to pull than push a buggy...

Sounds a good idea in theory but what if a wheelchair or pram containing a child needs to get onto the bus? Would you be willing to move the shoping and put the pram down?

Hopemore · 24/09/2013 22:38

I would be willing to get off and get the next...

I just want to know if I will look mad and ridiculous, even though in theory I don't care about what people think....

I would do it, if if makes life easier then great!

acsec · 24/09/2013 22:41

Get yourself a shopping trolley - they are fab!

SavoyCabbage · 24/09/2013 22:41

No it's not ridiculous. Unless you are going to put a cat in a knitted bonnet in it. It's a good idea and a tenner is a big saving.

usualsuspect · 24/09/2013 22:42

Get one of those real life doll things to put in it Grin

itsn0tmeitsyou · 24/09/2013 22:42

lol at cat in a knitted bonnet. Most people are in their own world's and won't notice anyway. If they do they would just assume you have dropped your DC off somewhere. Or that you're mad as birds. Either way, does it matter? Grin

UnicornsNotRiddenByGrownUps · 24/09/2013 22:43

Totally normal and have done similar myself.

If you do have the funds to could also get a shopping trolley, you can get quite funky ones now so not the big tartan monstrosities of old. Noticed B&M have some but unsure of quality.

Damnautocorrect · 24/09/2013 22:44

B and m had one of them shopping trollies, can also be used as a seat when waiting for the bus

500internalerror · 24/09/2013 22:45

Rucksack? I take a 75litre one and it fits a lot, plus 2 carrier bags in my hands. Easy to put in the luggsage bit on the bus.

gallicgirl · 24/09/2013 22:45

Can you not do an online shop? If you get it delivered in the week it only costs a couple of quid and some stores are free if you spend enough.

TessTackle · 24/09/2013 22:46

GrinGrinGrin Cat in a knitted bonnet GrinGrinGrin

I've taken DDs buggy to food shop even though I've dropped her at preschool and they have a buggy shed Blush

In theory people will probably think you've just dropped off a little 'un

gallicgirl · 24/09/2013 22:47

Oh sorry, just realised you particularly wanted to go to Lidl. Yanbu.

SummerHoliDidi · 24/09/2013 22:47

I used to take a buggy to coop when dd1 was about 3. I took her with me too but I made her walk so I could carry the shopping on the buggy. We didn't need to get a bus, but it was a good 20 - 25 min walk, longer with a 3yo.

I thought about getting a shopping trolley too, but actually the buggy I had held more shopping.

Hopemore · 24/09/2013 22:47

Should I go for 2 wheels or 4 wheels?
I am under 40.

OP posts:
BackforGood · 24/09/2013 22:57

2 wheels - there are some very snazzy ones out there. Don't know how many you are shopping for, but if you need more space, then as someone else said, you can also have a rucksack on your back.
Do you not have a nearer supermarket ? I know Lidl is one of the cheaper ones, but is it cheaper once you've factored in that kind of amount for the taxi fare?
Or, as someone else said, surely an online shop would make sense for you.
Or, you could do a monthly online shop of the heavy, long life things (tins and cartons of fruit juice for eg) then just have to pick up stuff that's easier to carry or put in your trolley for the other 3 weeks. That's a FORTUNE to spend to just get back from the supermarket.

BigBirthdayGloom · 24/09/2013 23:01

Do it, absolutely. A mum from school does it every week and absolutely does not l

BigBirthdayGloom · 24/09/2013 23:01

Sorry-absolutely dies not look silly.

jendot · 24/09/2013 23:06

I have a buggy that I use or post office runs and shopping. My kids go to senior school! I was once told it made me look like a crazy at lady...but the accuser had issues herself! Who cares hat anyone thinks. I hate carrying shopping bags!!

Hopemore · 24/09/2013 23:11

If I got a shopping trolley I would go for a plain boring one tbh.
Possibly all black.
I get lost doing online shopping, I don't know I just spend a lot in front of the computer and don't get the shopping done properly. Might give it a shot for cans, cleaning products only and see how it goes.
I definitely need to go tomorrow, my house is empty, can't wait for delivery.
And I don't spend a tenner every week, I tend to go to lidl twice a month, sometimes once. The shops around here a telco metro and sainsburys local, too small, too full, too expensive and I don't find what I need, unless I just pop for few bits and bobs. If I need a weekly shop I need to get a bus.
And I am done with carrying, sorry. Done that for too long, huge back pack and two or three carriers bag. I won't do this to myself nomore.
I am buying for 3 but my only dc eats for two at the moment.

Really Jendot? that is so cool.
If people can carry 2, 3 wheels shopping trolleys, why not buggies?
I will do it tomorrow!

There are a couple of women round my way that do this. No one bats an eyelid. There's a gran who does the school run with a fold-up stroller. All the schoolbags/shopping/kitchen sinks go in it and the kids walk home!

MisselthwaiteManor · 25/09/2013 07:09

If I saw someone doing that I'd just assume their baby was elsewhere in town or had just been dropped off somewhere. I wouldn't bother getting a trolley when the buggy will do the job.
