After reading some threads here and on other sites I have come to the conclusion .... I live on a diff planet lol

My children eat sausage rolls, takeouts , cereal ,sweets and drink fruit shoots

I bottle fed both

The love tv and eldest ipad

I would take them out of school for a holiday

And .........
My ds 4 is currently munching on jelly tots

I do think Mumsnet really doesn't reflect how most of us parent.

I feel paralysed with anxiety sometimes about how what I'm doing with DS would be received on Mumsnet. But then all my (naice, middle class) friends seems to be doing the same ish as me. DS has something sweet most days, watches at least a hour of telly a day, has a dummy, etc. I did breast feed, co sleep, used a sling and am strict with him on how he treats the dog polishes Mumsnet halo

maddymoo25 · 24/09/2013 18:35

It just seems the world has gone crazy lol what happened to just livng life

Jolleigh · 24/09/2013 18:35

maddy - you appear to live in the real world rather than the idealist, self sacrificing mumsnet one...congratulations! Grin

WorraLiberty · 24/09/2013 18:36

Same here OP, except I wouldn't take them out of school.

I generally don't believe half of what I read on MN

I think a lot of people type what they think they should be doing, rather than what they actually do.

Everything in this house is in moderation and thankfully, we're a happy healthy bunch.

guiltyconscience · 24/09/2013 18:36

Nope you aren't, I think you sound like a nice mum who is 'normal'!

ICameOnTheJitney · 24/09/2013 18:36

YANBU but....I was like you until my older daughter was found to have two cavities in her teeth. She's had both teeth out now...adult teeth too. Now it's chocolate only and on a friday straight after her meal...NO jelly sweets and no toffee or chewy sweets ever....no juice unless it's with a meal occasionally...

McNewPants2013 · 24/09/2013 18:38

You sound normal to me.

maddymoo25 · 24/09/2013 18:38

See don't get me wrong I understand the moderation thing, and I do have rules but I can't help butfeel its all going a bit ott lol
My ds was climbing a small tree and I got accused of being a bad mum once . Lol

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 24/09/2013 18:43

You're right it is getting OTT but in my opinion, it's only what's typed on Mumsnet.

When I look around me in the real world, or even online on Facebook, no-one is as OTT as some of the posters claim to be here.

Years ago if someone started a thread asking for suggestions on what to cook for tea/put in a packed lunch, it read like any normal recipe suggestion thread.

Nowadays they read more like a Science lesson with carbs/trans fats/sugar and salt content etc....taking over the OP.

It's all getting a bit daft.

Feminine · 24/09/2013 19:19

I agree with both of worra's comments.

I've also yet to meet a real life person that lives like they type here!

I'm a bad Mum too.

SoleSource · 24/09/2013 19:27

Dis is scusting and specbickable !! Angry

YoniBottsBumgina · 24/09/2013 19:30

I have never got the impression from mumsnet that posters, in general, avoid ALL junk food and sweets for their DC and never let them watch TV or play computer games etc.

Plenty who would take them out of school for a holiday too.

You're reading too much AIBU if you think this is what mumsnet "is"!

Besides how on earth does anyone get time to mumsnet if they don't leave their DC to the big square babysitter every once in a while... Grin

absentmindeddooooodles · 24/09/2013 19:32

I must be a bloody terrible mother then!! Haha. Ds 2.6 has had a feuit shoot and a kinder egg today and is currently watching youve been framed with me, the cat, the dog and dp. And hes wearing sparkly pink pjs. Cos thats just how we roll.........

YoniBottsBumgina · 24/09/2013 19:32

Also mn is one of the least judgemental sites I've found which is actually supportive of breastfeeding AND bottle feeding. Okay you get a few occasional jibes but they're always shot down, you don't get a bunch of smuggy mcsmugs posting sad faces about their best friend's cousin's niece's baby, who she has decided not to breastfeed.

Pagwatch · 24/09/2013 19:32

My dc don't eat take away, cereal, fruit shoots or sausage rolls

I breastfed all my children.

They don't watch much tv but love computers /iPad

I would take the middle one out of school but not the youngest.

But I couldn't care less that you do things differently. Not a jot.

MissAntithetic · 24/09/2013 19:37

I'm just making it up as I go along.

I haven't broke her yet. (She's 13 months).

She watches telly, but we do loads of other stuff to.

She eats what we eat pretty much.

I bf still. She is completely obsessed with boob and I fear ill be feeding her until she is 40.

I've dropped her a few times. She's eaten off the floor a few times. at least daily

Sometimes I've put back to back me tumble on for longer than a hour so I can mumsnet chill out.

She seems ok shrug

thebody · 24/09/2013 19:44

my 14 year old dd had a sausage baguette for tea, her belly button pierced last month, currently has so much foundation on that 'time team' would need a week to dig down to her natural skin. she just informed me that 'of mice and men' was a load of poo! and Shakespeare was a boring prat.

dd 13 loves 1D, that's it just 1D.

don't believe half the shite you read on here.

posters have you believe they bf and co slept to high school where all the dcs got 57 A* and live on sushi and play 33 different instruments and 18 different languages.

their boys play in tutus and dresses to age 14 and of course no one bats an eye lid because they and their friends are sooo cool. their dds always choose Lego NOT dolls and are already sitting for law degrees at high school.

healthy home cooked meals every night, moon cups not tampons, oh and every child LOVES reading and is top of the class.

Grin
Sparklymommy · 24/09/2013 19:52

Everyone is different. Grin

pianodoodle · 24/09/2013 20:04

DH took the piss at my serving up "mcnuggets" tonight.

They were not Mcnuggets the packet said goujons... completely different...isn't it?

They sound better anyway Grin

Doubtfuldaphne · 24/09/2013 20:50

I was going to put a sausage roll in my dd's lunchbox for nursery tomorrow? I hadn't even questioned it until reading this thread! Aibu?????

pianodoodle · 24/09/2013 20:56

DD (2) is partial to a sausage roll now and then.

Send it!

I wouldn't have thought twice about it either I've only seen sausage roll mockery since I started looking at this site too :)

Greensleeves · 24/09/2013 21:02

thebody I am struggling to remove my shoulders from my ears after reading your post, our life is so CRAP compared to how I thought it would be when I was a smug mum of one perfect snowflake

utterly, totally crap

I read to them though, sometimes. That's good, isn't it?

canyou · 24/09/2013 21:11

I had a baptism of fire to parenthood as we fostered 3 family members when dd was 5 mo . A Social worker saved my sanity with the words 'Woman are you mad you have TV and internet Use Them. And sweets are not a treat but a bribe '
So it is sweets and juice and crisps and crap junk food when needs be and relatively healthy the other 85% of the time. Smile
No broken or obese DC here I still love that social worker

thebody · 24/09/2013 21:38

reading is good just do it with wine!!

CanYou, what a fantastic post. what a great social worker. Grin

Mydelilah · 24/09/2013 21:45

Eh? Since when have sausage rolls been banned? Shock
