To get a nose job?

GirlWithTheLionHeart · 24/09/2013 15:13

Wibu to get my nose done? Wanted it since I hit puberty and it grew into something that resembles a witches nose with a big hump in the middle.
I really think my face would look better with a smaller nose.

Anyone else had one? What was the recovery like?

I have a young ds so I'm wondering if I should just get it done while he won't remember or wait until he's older to understand why mummy looks like something out of Hannibal

Do it! Honestly the best thing I've ever done!
It is painful, the black eyes lasted a while and my husband said he hated being out with me as it looked as though he'd hit me!
But, no more feeling self conscious at traffic lights, no unfortunate photos and now I don't have to think about it. My nose is natural looking, no side effects!
Good luck !

Lazysuzanne · 24/09/2013 16:26

I had one about 20 years ago, I dont remember it being painful and I had no black eyes, just some faint yellow bruising under my eyes.

I was happy with the result

squoosh · 24/09/2013 16:30

I'm not a huge fan of plastic surgery but a good nose job can really transform the way people feel about themselves.

I say do it if you really hate your nose and you're quite certain a new hate won't take its place once it's fixed.

Do not go abroad for cut price surgery. I have been considering rhinoplasty and had three sessions with the surgeon as well as medical photographs taken. Decided not to go ahead due to potential side effects. Surgeon actually told me bit to go ahead if I had any doubts. After the second consultation I would have booked i'm the next day if I could have, but with more time to think I decided against it.

If you go ahead then please sirens a but more and get a reputable UK surgeon with property cooling off periods

printmeanicephoto · 24/09/2013 16:41

Why not try Noseright product first - only about a tenner - then job done with nearly no cost!!

Rachel778 · 24/09/2013 16:41

I had a nosejob . . Had a bump in bridge of it and was forever self consience from a young age

Then I got skin cancer, on the nose and after the Op it looked worse than ever so the Surgeon offered me a nosejob on the NHS as corrective surgery , , Was best thing ever and I now have a completely straight nose (allbeit with scaring but I call them my survival scars) :)

I had NO pain whatsoever an though I expected two large black eyes all I got was a yellowish bruise under one eye which was gone within 2 days or so .. Go for it . ..

hermioneweasley · 24/09/2013 16:41

Told me NOT to go ahead, not "bit"!

printmeanicephoto · 24/09/2013 16:42

Oh yeah - and no black eyes!!

SoleSource · 24/09/2013 16:49

This surgeon is on the GMC here OP> British trained and has over ten years experience in a hospital in London. Research for yourself first, don't believe all European surgeons are dangerous.

GirlWithTheLionHeart · 24/09/2013 17:36

I think I am going to go for it. You only live once, why live always being self conscious of something so easily fixed.

I've been researching a surgeon for a few years. I think I will book a consultation :)

I wonder why some people get black eyes and some don't?

What was the pain like when you woke up?

OP posts:
Rachel778 · 24/09/2013 17:39

I had no pain .. Apparently they had dosed me up on morphine during the op and just after I come round . . Was given painkillers but to be honest they were never used or needed.

Lazysuzanne · 24/09/2013 17:43

I dont remember any pain at all, I remember the nurse taking the gauze out of my nose, there seemed to be yards & yards of it

Gruntfuttock · 24/09/2013 17:50

The only pain I felt, from the time of the surgery until I was fully recovered was the needle going into the back of my hand in the operating theatre. I mean that absolutely literally. I felt no pain whatsoever apart from during those few seconds before I went under. Bear in mind also, that any "bruising" is only where the blood from the operation has drained into spaces under the skin and therefore unlike normal bruises there is no tenderness and the "bruises" or "black eyes" don't last long, just a few days as the components of the blood are gradually reabsorbed.

My operation was about 25-30 years ago, as I had been left £2000 in the will of a distant relative and decided to spend it on the nose job I had always wanted. It was one of the best things I've ever done. I went to my GP and he referred me to a surgeon in Harley Street called Tom Cochrane (who I have since learned was a very eminent surgeon who co-founded the burns unit at the Queen Victoria hospital in East Grinstead with Archie McIndoe.

I was extremely lucky to get such a good surgeon and IMO it is very important to get referred by your GP even though you will be paying privately and to have a proper consultation with the surgeon before you make the decision to go ahead.

printmeanicephoto · 24/09/2013 17:52

Why the heck would anyone pay thousands when you can just pay a tenner as I mentioned earlier- im a happy customer!!!

CairngormsClydesdale · 24/09/2013 17:58

printme Does your 10 pound solution produce a smaller, straighter nose?

SheRaHasTheAnswer · 24/09/2013 18:02

I had black eyes for almost 3 months- I am a smoker and had a minor bleed as they removed the gauze though! Probably due to crap circulation or something!

Not really pain when I woke up- more discomfort- there's a tonne of gauze up your nose and it feels bruised. But definitely not agony. The following days were just feeling tired and run down. I was in more pain from an endoscopy (that trapped wind is a bastard!)

Op- I'm really excited for you! Seeing my nose for the first time felt like a massive relief!

printmeanicephoto · 24/09/2013 18:03

It worked for me - I just wanted a slight change so I just put it on a few times and not for too long. But the more you use it the more dramatic the change. Good because you can go at your own pace and stop when you get the results you want.

iWantChampagneOnColaBudget · 24/09/2013 18:03

i had a nose job nearly 7 years ago, was the best thing ever!
as a child, i had a broken nose and (stupidly) had a corrective procedure abroad.
when i turned 18, i was referred to a fantastic surgeon who told me my surgery abroad was so bad, they had removed pieces of my bone in my nose to make it 'straight' and if i was hit with a ball for example, my nose would fall flat on my face. for this reason, PLEASE research your surgeon carefully
anyway, had a consultation where they told me what would happen, make sure the nose shape suited my face and called me in for the op which went smoothly.
the nurses were fantastic as were all my follow on appointment with my surgeon and the gift pack i sent them could not even graze my gratitude

GirlWithTheLionHeart · 24/09/2013 18:40

I can't wait. Is it weird seeing yourself with a different nose? I bet it takes a while to get used to.

Someone mentioned not being embarassed at traffick lights anymore and that made me laugh because its so true!

MrsMcEnroe · 24/09/2013 18:49

Do it. Best thing I ever did.

I did have very black eyes for 10 days though (but then my old nose was, according to the surgeon, the biggest and most deformed he had ever seen, so it took a fair bit of whacking to sort it out!!).

There were a few seconds of pain when I first woke from the anaesthetic, then I was given drugs and no pain after that. Post-op pain was totally bearable with paracetamol.

This was nearly 20 years ago. I had it done in the private wing of Guy's hospital, by a surgeon who also did reconstructive work on the NHS.

MrsMcEnroe · 24/09/2013 18:51

When I first saw myself with my new nose, I simply though "ah, yes, that's what I'm supposed to look like." It was as though the old nose wasn't really part of my iykwim?

To this day I still absolutely LOVE being able to stand sideways on to someone and not feel that I have to put my hand up to hide my nose.

AnaisHendricks · 24/09/2013 19:02

I have wanted one forever. As a teenager the thing I dreaded most was cinemas and buses. Having to sit side-on from people was excruciating and on the bus I'd keep getting glimpses of my profile myself and cringing.

If it wouldn't wipe out our emergency money I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Gatekeeper · 24/09/2013 19:14

I had mine done 30 years ago and whilst it wasn't done brilliantly- my nostrils are slightly uneven and he didn't take nearly enough off- I'm still glad I had it done

No pain, black eyes for about a week. Worse bit was breathing through my mouth when I had the cast on; I awoke each night with my tongue completely dried out!

jjkitten · 04/01/2018 14:00

Do it. It was maybe the best decision I have done in my life. I've been insecure about my nose as long as I can remember an it took me at least 2 years of deciding and researching till I decided to do it. It's scary but once it's done I never regretted it. I never had much money so at one point I even thought I would never be able to get it but then I found out about cosmetic surgery travel. It was at some party…I don't even remember where or why but there was this girl (drunk) talking about how she got her breasts for great price to everyone that would listen…she had them done somewhere in Asia. Anyway…after that I started researching the prices abroad and found a clinic in Czech republic that had excellent reviews and option to have consultation online… It was Forme Clinic and after the online consultation I booked the operation with them. Oh my…I wrote too much again, didn't I? Haha…sorry. Do it, is the main message.
