Or are my neighbours, past and present?

I live in a flat and I live in my flat because it is close to work and I can't afford a house. The last three people to live in the flat opposite mine have all been keyboard players and I'm ashamed to say the noise can drive me nuts after a while! My current neighbour only knows Don't Stop Believing, Let It Be and a peculiar version of Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out. He is not very good, but I understand he needs to practise to get better. He plays the same songs over and over for a few hours every day, usually between 7pm and 10pm, give or take half an hour. But today he's been practising all day on and off since 8.00am. Would I be being unreasonable ask him to plug in some headphones? I have some decent ones he can use... Or is that as rude as I think it may be?

Maybe you should take up the violin!

Roshbegosh · 22/09/2013 17:28

How weird that you have had three keyboard players. YANBU. Good luck with headphones request but he might enjoy irritating people, some people do.

I don't think you abu, perhaps they don't realise how the noise travels.

My lad plays keyboard, organ and a sax, I pity our neighbour. But wont let he play any of them before 9am and always ask him to put headphones on, and only practise the sax for an hour.

My FIL next door neighbours son has a drum set and only plays it for 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon.

Its all about compromise

Just be extremely polite and beg him to use headphones!

I used to have opera singers living next door and for some reason they used to practice either in thier garden, or in thier conservatory with the doors open.

They were really bad as well and only sang one song together, over and over and over.

I'm a singer myself and sooooo many times I had to stop myself going over there and offering some lessons/tips!!!

YANBU.
Surely if he practises that much he should at least be good at playing by now.

Go round with the headphones and a big smile.

ZenGardener · 22/09/2013 17:36

When I was reading your OP I was wondering why he didn't use headphones. Seems the easy solution.

Good luck asking though!

If he refuses to wear headphones, it's time to develop a hobby of listening to extremely loud Dubstep!
