That this made my heart melt….

I hate mawkish sentimentality - of which - let's face it, there's much on Facebook.

However, about 2 years ago, a friend had posted a picture of his 6 month old baby in bright red jim jams clutching a parcel at Christmas time, staring at the camera with the caption underneath:

"My First Christmas Present From Santa".

I must admit, even my heart melted at that. I'm even starting to well up thinking about it now.

YABU. Have a yorkie and man up!

Sandychick31 · 21/09/2013 23:59

Fair enough!!!

Two years ago?

Don't forget the baby didn't write the caption!

Sandychick31 · 22/09/2013 00:04

Or well, a year last Xmas - so practically 2 years ago...

For me YABU; it would have made me mouth vom/cross for these reasons:

  1. I call him Father Christmas
  2. The commercialism behind getting a 6mo a present when they don't have a clue and would have got as excited about unwrapping some random household object.
Gerragrippe · 22/09/2013 00:12

It sounds sweet but I think you may be more sentimental than you thought!

MairzyDoats · 22/09/2013 00:14

And why are you posting about it now you nutter?

AgentZigzag · 22/09/2013 00:17

Put that bottle down OP!

You're just luring the Christmas haters in by stealth aren't you? Grin

What's made you think about/post it now?

Thisvehicleisreversing · 22/09/2013 00:17

What's with starting all these odd threads op?

Sandychick31 · 22/09/2013 00:20

EugenesAxe - lol! - you make a very good/valid point in point 2.

What made me post it now is that I'm very new to MN - so couldn't have posted it before and whenever I think of that photo I think it was beyond cute!!

And AgentZigzag - the bottle is already down! - but unfortunately it's only diet coke! :(

Confused
AgentZigzag · 22/09/2013 00:28

Booo to the diet coke.

Can't even blame the thread on being a bit squiffy Grin

Sandychick31 · 22/09/2013 00:30

Thisvehicleisreversing - didn't think particularly 'odd' as such - just a lighthearted thing for a Saturday night….

Nowt wrong with an odd thread, they're what makes MN go round.

MairzyDoats · 22/09/2013 00:43

True dat Grin

squoosh · 22/09/2013 02:03

You're welling up over some random baby from two years ago in a red babygro? That's it? The baby wasn't even desperately ill? Living in a warzone? Orphaned on Christmas Eve?

YABVU.

AgentZigzag · 22/09/2013 02:12

Blimey, you take some egging squoosh Grin

You need to get in touch with your feminine side emotions.

squoosh · 22/09/2013 02:18

My tear ducts are grumpy, reluctant things!

Sandychick31 · 22/09/2013 07:43

Fair enough squoosh - on another day if I was in a different frame of mind, or it was different circumstances I might well have thought… "spew!"!!!!!

Tee2072 · 22/09/2013 07:48

I am mostly incredulous that you remember the picture! I don't remember pictures I saw yesterday.

Sandychick31 · 22/09/2013 08:42

Tee2072 If I'm being honest the father of this baby was my ex's nephew and at that time I still had a bit of a 'thing' for my ex - so would look at all his family members' Facebook pics etc - and being, as he was , from a large Irish Catholic family - this, as you can imagine, took up a huge chunk of my time - so many people to look up!!! However, I have since realised that I was starting to use Facebook to avoid facing the more difficult issues in my life - so I have since more or less given the damn thing up - I was realising I was spending an unhealthy amount of time on there.

But his nephew and his wife seem excellent parents to their 3 girls, they are certainly examples of people who've got the required patience with children and therefore all 3 of their girls are very happy and secure. This contrasts with my own childhood where my parents were self absorbed and not child orientated at all! - Sorry - was just going off topic there - but I did find this pic particularly adorable - and that's why I remember it!
